I perched on the edge of the couch, my legs swinging above the floor as I glanced around the living room. The adults were deep in conversation, their laughter and chatter forming a warm background hum. I could hear them talking about weekend plans and sharing stories from their childhood, but my attention was focused on the little ones sprawled on the blanket in front of me.
Anis, my adorable baby niece, was nestled peacefully in her tiny plushie pile, her tiny fingers curling around the ear of her favorite elephant.
Big Bro had hooked her up to her breathing machine. I wondered if she would always have to use it. Months had passed already since she was born.
It was adorable how she would sometimes mumble in her sleep, as if she were dreaming about grand adventures. I felt a swell of pride every time I looked at her; she was part of our family, and I was determined to be the best uncle ever.
