I sighed as I leaned my head back against my seat. I missed Rose and Anis. They were taking a while with that drink. Although, that was probably just an excuse to give me space to work without being distracted.
I glanced at the clock again, tapping my fingers restlessly on the desk. They were just getting a drink from the cafeteria, I reminded myself, but it felt like an eternity since they had left. I hoped they were okay. The base was a relatively safe place, and I knew that nothing serious was likely to happen, but the silence felt heavier without their laughter filling the air.
As I sat there, I glanced over at my desk and remembered the hidden photo album tucked away in the corner. I often looked through it when I needed a pick-me-up. It was filled with pictures of Rose and Anis—moments captured that brought me joy. I opened the drawer quietly, careful not to draw attention to it, and pulled out the album.
