I yawned as I did a good stretch. The soft fabric of the playpen cradled me, Anis laying beside me, her little face scrunched up in sleep. She looked so peaceful, almost like a tiny angel. I smiled at her, feeling a rush of warmth.
Where was everyone? I sat up, rubbing my eyes. Saf and Ali weren't around, nor were Rose or Ma. The house felt quiet, but I could hear the faint sounds of laughter and clattering dishes coming from the kitchen. They were probably busy cooking.
Deciding that I didn't want to stay cooped up in the playpen, I carefully crawled over to Anis. She stirred slightly, but didn't wake up. I gently poked her cheek.
"Hey, Anis," I whispered, trying not to be too loud.
Her tiny eyelids fluttered, and she slowly opened her eyes, looking up at me with a sleepy smile. "Goo," she babbled, reaching out a chubby hand toward me.
"Good afternoon!" I said with a grin. "You ready for some fun?"
