I laid in bed and sighed. My head throbbed as it continued to replay the ominous vision. Maybe it really meant nothing. I hoped it meant nothing, but I wasn't one who relied on hope alone; I had to act. But right now my body didn't want to cooperate.
I shut my eyes tightly, trying to will the memories away, but they clung to me like shadows, refusing to let go.
In the vision, I had seen Rosemary—her fierce spirit alive in the midst of battle, dressed in shining armor, launching silver staves at the encroaching darkness. The sight of her standing against the abyss had filled me with a mixture of pride and anguish. She was my light, my anchor, and yet in that moment, she had felt so far away, fighting a battle I feared she might not win.
My eyes shifted to the cellphone in my pants. I reached out for it. Maybe I should call her. But, maybe that would worry her.
