I continued dragging Sissy away from the scene. I had finally stood up for myself, for both of us, I wasn't about to go back to that world.
"We can't help her, Sissy," I said, my voice devoid of emotion. "She never cared about us. We have to take care of ourselves now."
Sissy's eyes welled up with tears as she looked back at our motionless mother. "But... she's our mom. We can't just leave her like that!"
I stopped in my tracks, my grip on Sissy's hand tightening. "She never acted like a mother to us, Sissy. She hurt us, abused us. That woman only saw us as pawns to keep our drunkard father around, and when that no longer worked, she used us to steal stuff. We deserve better than this."
Sissy's tears fell freely now, her small frame trembling with a mix of fear and confusion. "But... what do we do now, Gil? Where do we go?"
