I drove the snowmobile as Gael slumbered in the back. He had almost driven into a tree and decided to let me take the wheel.
As we traveled, I couldn't help but think of my wife and daughter. I missed them dearly. I missed Anis's cooing and my Rose's delicate fingers on my body.
I sighed, feeling the weight of responsibility settle heavily on my shoulders. I had promised Rose that I would return home safely. But that wasn't the only issue. I had no idea how long this mission to investigate the scientists would last. It could be days, weeks, or even months.
I gripped the steering wheel of the snowmobile, the metal cold beneath my gloves. The wind whipped around us, biting through our layers of clothing, and the landscape stretched out in a vast expanse of snow and ice. It was getting harder to see anything. The snowstorm was picking up, and I was starting to worry.
