I sighed as I looked out at the darkening sky of the chilly northern lands. Gael had come to pick me up.
"Thinking of my cuz, huh?" Gael asked.
My face warmed up slightly. The warmth of my family lingered in my arms, a sweet reminder of the love I had just left behind. Rose's gentle smile, the way Anis cooed and reached out for me, their laughter echoing in my mind—it felt like a dream, one I was reluctant to leave behind.
As I sat in the snowmobile, the biting cold of the northern air seeped into my bones, contrasting sharply with the warmth of my memories. I thought of Rose, how strong and supportive she was, even in moments of uncertainty. I could picture her now, cradling Anis in her arms, the way she lovingly tucked a blanket around our daughter, her eyes filled with a mix of pride and tenderness. I felt a pang of longing in my chest, wishing I could be there to share every moment with them, to witness Anis grow and learn.
