Saffron
The laughter echoed again, pulling me away from the empty courtyard. I followed it, the sound growing louder as I made my way towards the playground.
This was where we used to spend our recess, running around, playing games, and just being kids. It was a place of joy and innocence. But now, it seemed distorted, tainted by Demosnia's influence.
I found Milo there, running around the playground, his laughter filling the air. He was jumping over swings, climbing up the slide, his movements carefree and full of life.
"Milo!" I called out, my heart aching with hope and fear.
He turned around, his eyes sparkling with joy. "Saf!" he exclaimed, running towards me. "Come play with me! It's so cold, but running around keeps me warm!"
I couldn't help but laugh. "Come on, let's go home. It's a lot warmer than here."
"Home? Yay! I want hot choco!" he jumped off the slide and ran off.
I smiled and ran over him.
