Chapter 46 - The Sentinel Onslaught #46

The yard of the X-mansion had transformed into a maelstrom of chaos. Fallen – mutants, some unconscious, others lying lifeless, littered the ground. Interspersed among them were the remains of Sentinel machines, each a testament to the furious battle that had raged.

Yet the ratio was evident: one Sentinel machine for every five mutants, a grim reminder of the machines' overwhelming power.

At the forefront of this brutal dance was Colossus, a behemoth of raw muscle and determination. With strength that defied imagination, he grappled with not one but three Sentinel machines simultaneously. His fists pummeled their armored forms, each blow resonating with sheer force. But as formidable as he was, even he struggled against their unrelenting assault.

Close behind, Scott Summers, known as Cyclops, wielded his mutant ability with precision. Crimson beams erupted from his eyes, each one carving through the air like a laser, slicing a Sentinel machine in half.

Yet, victory was fleeting. As Cyclops pivoted to engage another machine, his plans were thwarted by a duo of new adversaries. These Sentinels emitted an energy field, a disorienting veil that absorbed and dispelled his powerful optic blasts.

His frustration was palpable as he clenched his jaw, muttering in exasperation, "What on God's green earth are these things?"

Amidst the fierce fray, Wolverine's presence was felt. His adamantium-laced claws flashed and glinted, seeking vulnerabilities in the metal beasts. His attention was split between his adversary and the rapid developments around him.

Through gritted teeth, he retorted to Cyclops' inquiry, "Would it make any difference if you knew?" His voice was laced with a gruff intensity, a product of the relentless struggle. "Shut your mouth and keep fighting," he growled, his stance unwavering despite the odds stacked against them.

The heated exchange between Cyclops and Wolverine drew Colossus' attention, and in his heavy Russian accent, he reprimanded them, his voice carrying authority amid the chaos. "Now is not the time for argument. Focus on the enemy!" His words were a sobering reminder of the dire situation that demanded unity.

Ironically, the instant he redirected his gaze, the dynamics of his own battle shifted dramatically. The trio of Sentinel machines, which had been his adversaries, capitalized on his diverted attention. Swift as serpents, one of them slithered behind him, its metal arms coiling around Colossus' massive frame in a restraining headlock.

Simultaneously, another machine launched a barrage of pummeling punches, exploiting his vulnerability. But it was the third that posed the gravest threat, its chest cavity aglow with an ominous blue light, a telltale sign of an impending devastating attack.

Bracing himself for the impending onslaught, Colossus knew he was in a dire predicament. However, salvation came from an unexpected quarter. The skies above the mansion parted as Marvel Girl, the formidable Jean Grey, soared into view.

Her red hair billowed behind her as she approached the fray with a determined expression. With a subtle gesture of her hand, she harnessed her telekinetic power, seizing control of the situation.

As her power coursed through the air, the second and third Sentinel machines were lifted off the ground, their metal forms suspended in mid-air, helpless against her psychic grip.

With a focused clench of her fist, she maneuvered them expertly, forcing the two machines to collide in a cacophony of twisted metal. The impact reverberated with a bone-chilling screech, their metallic frames contorting and bending under the force of the collision.

Seizing the advantage presented by Marvel Girl's intervention, Colossus acted swiftly, his massive hands closing around the Sentinel that had entangled him moments ago. With a show of brute strength, he executed a textbook shoulder toss, propelling the mechanical menace into the ground with a resonating crash.

A triumphant grin graced his features as he delivered a barrage of powerful punches, each blow a testament to his raw might. In mere moments, the once formidable sentinel was reduced to a crumpled heap of scrap metal, sprawled defeated on the ground.

Colossus wasted no time in acknowledging the timely arrival of their ally. "Great timing!" he exclaimed, his words punctuated by his relentless assault on the disabled machine. His fists connected with the sentinel's head repeatedly, reshaping the metal until it was rendered utterly useless.

The entry of Marvel Girl had indeed proven to be a game-changer. The tide of the battle seemed to pivot in their favor, their renewed hope mirrored in the destruction of three sentinel machines. But their moment of respite was short-lived. The ominous night sky disgorged a fresh wave of adversaries, five more of the mechanical monstrosities descending upon them with chilling precision.

A determined grimace set on her features, Marvel Girl prepared to confront this new onslaught head-on. She harnessed her potent telekinetic powers, channeling them into a concentrated assault aimed at crushing the approaching sentinels. Her psychic energy surged outward, creating an invisible vice that sought to constrict and crush the metal bodies.

Yet, her efforts were met with an unexpected revelation. The sentinels' design seemed far from ordinary, as her powers seemed to encounter resistance. With each passing moment, their exterior and interior components subtly shifted, adapting to accommodate the increasing pressure. While Marvel Girl managed to inflict some damage, it was clear that these machines were unlike any they had faced before.

In an alarming turn of events, one of the sentinels closed the gap with startling speed, its metallic fist connecting with Marvel Girl's form. The impact was jarring, sending her hurtling through the air like a ragdoll. The ground met her with an unforgiving impact, and the battlefield trembled under the force of the collision.

Cursing under his breath, Wolverine's frustration boiled over as he witnessed Marvel Girl plummeting towards the unforgiving ground. Reacting on instinct, he lunged upwards with swift agility, his keen senses tracking her descent.

In a fluid motion, he scooped her into his arms just in time to prevent her impact with the earth. Cyclops shot him a disapproving glare, but the intensity of the moment precluded Wolverine from paying it much heed.

Ensuring Marvel Girl was secure on her feet, Wolverine's rugged features bore testament to his concern. "You alright, red?" he inquired, his gruff voice a mixture of worry and relief. Her nod was all the assurance he needed, prompting him to release her from his grasp, allowing her to stand independently.

However, the respite was short-lived as the ominous presence of the Sentinel machines descended upon them once more. The metallic giants landed with a heavy thud, encircling the group like vultures closing in on their prey. Their calculated movements left the mutants with no choice but to form a defensive formation, backs pressed together, ready to confront the impending onslaught.

Wolverine's teeth bared in a fierce snarl, his eyes locked onto the encroaching machines. His lips curled into a grim line as he voiced his frustration, his voice a low growl, "The odds are looking pretty grim. If you want to complain, now is the time, bub."

Before Cyclops could retort, a sudden swirl of smoke materialized, heralding the arrival of Ororo and her assembled team of students. Ororo's wide eyes swept over the chaotic scene, absorbing the extent of the devastation left in the wake of the Sentinel onslaught.

Shock and dismay etched her features, but her emotions quickly transformed into a seething anger as she took in the lifeless forms of the young mutants strewn across the grounds.

Storm's initial instinct was a primal urge to unleash her boundless power, to channel the tempestuous forces of nature itself and rain down swift retribution upon these aberrant machines. The notion of obliterating them in a maelstrom of her wrath was tantalizingly feasible. By no means was it wishful thinking on her part.

Storm's dominion over the elements was formidable, and she held this celestial power in the palm of her hand. However, wisdom prevailed over impulse; she was acutely aware of the machines' cunning capacity for learning and adaptation. Succumbing to recklessness was not an option.

Her ethereal eyes, like tempestuous clouds charged with energy, surveyed the scene with cool calculation. Storm's measured demeanor belied the storm raging within her, a turmoil of rage and frustration at the senseless destruction these machines had wrought. The scene before her was nothing short of a battlefield, with crumbled structures and fallen comrades bearing testimony to the relentless assault.

A steadying breath passed through her lips, tempered by experience and a seasoned tactical mind. She knew that strategic finesse was their best recourse in this dire situation. As her mind whirred with calculations and considerations, she internally called out to Marvel Girl. The connection was swift and seamless, an unspoken rapport forged through the intricacies of their shared powers.

With her telepathic link established, Storm immediatly conveyed eveything they learned about the machines to Marvel Girl.
