Chapter 7 - Falling into distress

After fawning over the mysterious dark prince, which they always referred him to.

They went ahead to help Maisie with her work to make things faster.

They missed two classes but they regretted it not, because their friend was worth it.

Mrs Lee didn't want any other student assisting the rebellious students so they just had to be watchful.

Danisa would watch while Isolde would help Maisie, and when Isolde is tired, she would take the guard's post while Danisa would go and assist Maisie.

Likewise, if Maisie was tired, she would go and watch while one of her friends would continue. And the circle went on and on till they completed the task.

It was five in the evening when Mrs. Lee freed the students as they had completed their punishment.

While Isolde and Danisa stood outside the school gate. They saw Maisie heading outside with her backpack along with Xav and Liam.

Liam looked extremely angry that he had to do one stupid work assigned by Mrs Lee. And when the remaining students caught sight of the deadly glare he darted at everyone, they dared not ask him what was wrong.

After they stepped out of the school premises. Isolde groaned about her back, "Why did Connor have to be so stupid? He's supposed to be punished alone" She said, if she was the teacher who had caught a bully like Connor, she would have sent all the workers on leave and asked him to finish all the work because the boy was an idiot!

Liam consented, "Right" His mood seems to have changed a bit. "Fuck that Mrs Lee" He cursed.

His eyes frantically went to check his elbow which was bruised, he felt the pain shoot up his arm and he gritted his teeth in return.

The students remained silent, expressing their grievances inwardly. All of them were annoyed and they promised each other to deal with Connor when the time arises. Also, they would be watchful of that Mrs Lee!

Liam and Xavier got to their house, they bid the three girls farewell before going out of sight.

With the two out of sight, "Mr Desmond's assignment" Danisa gasped, they were to submit it tomorrow and she hadn't touched it yet. The man had given them since last week.

"I haven't done mine" Maisie added. Isolde also hadn't done hers.

The assignment can't be done from their textbooks, they would need to google search it and she didn't have a phone. The other two girls were the only ones who had phones.

Not that Maisie couldn't afford a good phone, she just didn't see the need for it as of now.

"How about you come to my place to do it?" Isolde asked if the three of them could do it together.

She looked away, "I don't know," She said with uncertainty.

Her mother had gone to visit their grandmother and would be back after a week, While she and her father would be the only ones at home, she couldn't go to their house without informing him first, she was scared that he would be worried.

Isolde frowned, "What do you mean by you don't know? How else would you do the assignment if you don't come over" She stopped walking, and the other two stopped as well?

Isolde then held Maisie's shoulder, "You have to be decisive, my dear. My mother isn't at home because she took my brother to the hospital, she would be back tomorrow morning, you can just come over to do the assignment and tomorrow morning, you would leave for school. Even Danisa is staying for the night"

Maisie turned to look at the other one, who bobbed her head. She then joined Isolde in persuading her to stay for the night.

Maisie said, "How about my father? I haven't told him yet"

Isolde waved her hand, she inserted her hand into the bag to bring out her phone, she immediately dialed the man's number because she had it. Maisie always called him with her phone if she needed anything.

After four rings, the man finally picked it up. "Good afternoon, this is Isolde, Maisie's friend speaking" He heard and a warm smile graced his lips.

"Yes, yes, how are you, my child?" He asked.

Isolde smiled, "Fine. I wanted to ask permission if Maisie could stay for the night. we have this assignment and she doesn't have a phone. We'll have to do it together"

It didn't sit well with Mr. Tuffin at first, this was the first time it would happen. Although Maisie goes to her friends' houses on some occasions, she hadn't spent the night outside which worried him.

He asked Isolde to give the phone to Maisie. Hearing her voice, he calmly said. "You see why I told you to get a phone. Other than it being a distraction, it helps when it comes to academics" The man reasoned, he had wanted to buy it for her but she had blatantly refused.

"I'm sorry father. I just didn't want to become addicted to it" She explained.

Sigh... The man had no option but to give her permission to stay for the night, he asked her to go there directly. Isolde's house was quite far from theirs and the transport fee would be high.

"Thank you, papa, I love you" She smiled in the end.

"I love you too Maisie, be a good girl while you're there" He strictly told her before they hung up the call.

"So?" Isolde inquired once Maisie handed her the phone. "He said I can stay" She responded and the two beamed. They increased their pace as they walked home.

The sun gradually exited from the sky and the moon took over, howls hooting and a gentle breeze was blowing. The trio had completed their assignment when Maisie's stomach grumbled, she bit her lips as she tried to hold it in. She was shy to ask Isolde for food in her house, if it was school, it would have been better.

Thankfully, the house owner heard the grumble and she quickly made her way to the kitchen. She heated the food her mother prepared this morning before leaving.

She then went over to where they sat previously. Danisa's mouth watered on seeing Chicken Katsu curry(A shallow fried crispy chicken over a bed of rice and curry) they wasted no time and soon begin to devour the tasty meal.

The bones of the chicken were the only thing remaining on the plates. They burped, each and everyone satisfied with what they had eaten. While Maisie cleared the dishes as she had offered to help, Isolde and Danisa were busy on their phones, looks like something came up on the internet.

Maisie shook her head, those girls and phones!

After Maisie was done, she suddenly heard the sound of the door banging. Isolde narrowed her eyes, that seems to be her mother. Didn't she say she was going to return tomorrow? Was Irvin discharged that soon?

Danisa panicked, she went to stand next to Maisie while Isolde opened the door for her mother. She was truly the one.

The smile on her face dropped when she saw the other girls in her house, particularly that cursed child. Didn't she warn Isolde never to be with her again?

"Good evening Mrs. Josh" Maisie bowed her head, she was well aware of the glare the woman cast at her.

"Evening" She responded in a flat tone, "You may have your leave now" The woman wasn't polite. She looked over at Maisie exactly and pointed at the door. There was no way she could entertain a cursed person in her abode.

Isolde protested. "Mom? It's dark already"

The woman turned to meet her daughter sharply, "I'll hear no more from you again, I'll still deal with you when I'm done" She spoke menacingly and then turned to the other girl to send her out.

Maisie couldn't leave in Isolde's cloth, she had to change into her uniform before she found her way out.

"I'll accompany you" She heard from Danisa but Mrs Josh sent her back inside. Danisa's house was next to theirs, but Mrs Josh had to send Maisie who was living in the woods outside by this time.

She heard the door shut behind her as she descended the stairs. Maisie turned to look at the building to see Mrs Josh chasing her daughter, in an attempt to deal with her. She sighed. Never did she think it would end like this.

She looked around, on the street, she could only see herself walking, there was no sign of anyone and she was scared. She hoped that nothing bad would happen to her.
