Chapter 11 - Blooming Fondness (Act II)

"Seriously?! Are you even doing your job right?? Let me remind you that I'm the one who is paying you here!"

Just another regular day at the agency. How did you get into this situation in the first place? This woman has been coming in and out of the agency for a week now, trying to gain information about her husband who is said to be having a secret affair. It has been exactly seven days since she came over, nagging you and your seniors to give her the evidence, but there were hardly any suspicious activities that would even prove the man to be guilty of such act.

"Ma'am please listen, for the past week, we did our best to get something out of him but everything up to this point was hardly leading him to be guilty. I think this matter should be settled if you two would talk personally and have a heart-to-heart conversation—"

"Oh what do you even know?! You're just nothing but a young brat who is self-proclaiming to be a detective! So be it, I'll take this matter into my own hands, such useless lot" And with that, the woman stormed off with the door slammed behind her. You sighed at the fiasco that had just occurred as you sat back down on your chair.

"Do you guys think that the woman is telling the truth?" You turned your head to look at them.

"Hmph, I'd care less. We tried to help her and this is the thanks we get?" You heard Sango's irritated response as she sat on her seat while crossing her arms.

"And then she stormed out on us" You sighed as you leaned against the railings of the bridge.

Heizou was leaning his back against the railings right beside you as he was listening to your story. "Hm, I see.."

"She's really trying too hard to find evidence against her husband, even though there are really no signs of suspicious activity" You rested your cheek on your palm as you took a bite of the dango from your other hand.

"There's a fine line between misunderstanding the situation and falsely accusing someone.. But based on how you described her, perhaps she's a bit too insistent that her suspicion is correct. There might be more to this story" He placed his hand over his chin.

You then just sighed again and took another bite. "I don't think there's any point on continuing this investigation"

"But I think otherwise~" He lifts a finger up. "Because the very same woman you described just came to the police station earlier and wanted us to investigate a suspicious person. She didn't specifically describe who the person is but now that I hear the same story coming from you, I'm starting to see the pieces falling into place"

"Eh? She went to the Tenryou Commission?"

"Oh definitely, she was fuming and even called the attention of several officers to hear her story out. At first, I wasn't really interested in those kind of affairs but now that I have more information at hand, I guess I'm slightly intrigued to see how things will play out from here" He then leaned over to take a bite of your last dango.

"Wh-" You pouted as you watched him eat your food.

"Anyways, are you free today? If you don't mind, we could form another collaboration in this case"

"Eh? W-well... Not that I have anything planned today..."

"Great!" He clasped his hands together. "Let's meet up later at Uyuu Restaurant around... Perhaps later at sundown?"

"Why at sundown?"

"I have a couple of things to prepare, oh and you don't have to bring anything. Just your presence will suffice~" He winked then he suddenly went off before you could say anything.

You slightly blushed when he winked at you and then let out a sigh when he finally left.

It was already almost sundown, you got up from your seat and let your seniors know that you're leaving early before you ran out of the agency. Time flies so fast when you're just reading books. It was your only way of passing the time when you don't have any cases to handle.

You soon arrived at Uyuu Restaurant and went inside. Upon entering, you spotted a familiar person inside, it was the man that you were commissioned to investigate for the past week.

"Sir..?" You approached the man. He seemed as surprised when he turned around to see you.

"M-miss l/n, what brings you here? Are you here.. For another questioning..?" He was nervously sweating.

"Ah, no.. I came here to meet up with a friend actually... How about you?"

"W-well... Another detective came up to me and wanted to discuss some important things with me.. Along with a friend of his.." He scratched the back of his head.

"I didn't know he invited you along as well.."

"Oh? Are you perhaps that friend the detective had mentioned?"

"Does he have red hair and olive eyes with two moles under each eye?"

"Ah, yes" He nodded then he gestured his hand to the seat in front of him. "Why don't you have a seat while we wait for him?"

"Alright, thank you" You nodded then you sat down on the seat right in front.

You and the man have been waiting for a while, you rested your head on your palm as your fingers on your other hand was lightly tapping against the wooden table.

"I guess he's running late tonight.." He muttered anxiously as you directed your eyes at him.

"It seems so.."

THUD!

You flinched in surprise upon hearing the door of the restaurant being slammed open. You ended up sitting straight and tried to see what the fuss was all about.

A familiar figure of a woman stormed into the restaurant and stomped right into your table.

"I knew it!"

You turned to look at the woman in surprise. You were confused on how she managed to find the both of you here, then she just slammed her hand on the table.

"You filthy two-faced brat! So it was YOU who my husband had a secret affair with!"

The man stood up. "That's enough! Miss l/n is only here because the both of us were invited by another detective!"

"Lies! All lies! How bold of you to use someone else as a cover just to save your pathetic little date!" She turned back at you with a glare. "Now it makes sense why you refused to give me the evidence, you tried to save yourself from getting caught! And for that..!" She raised her hand and was about to swing it towards you.

You immediately closed your eyes tight while trying to turn away, bracing yourself for the worst.

"Alright, that's enough" A calm familiar voice can be heard as you realized that nothing has happened to you yet.

"H-huh..?" You slowly opened your eyes and see a certain redhead, standing behind the woman as he grabbed her wrist firmly to prevent her from swinging it further.

"Wh- hey! What do you think you're doing!? Unhand me!"

"Calm down now, I believe you misunderstood the whole scenario here" He tried to defuse the current situation.

"Calm down?! This witch deserves a strike to the face for having an affair with my husband! And aren't you the Tenryou detective?? Why are you stopping me, I'm your client!"

"Ma'am, with all due respect, these two were invited on a dinner with me to discuss about the investigation" He then dropped the woman's hand and went beside you, pulling you close to him as he suddenly grabbed you by the waist. "Also, y/n here is my girlfriend. So it's not a possibility that these two are on a date, am I right?" He gave a soft close-eyed smile.

You were shocked and dumbfounded at what he just said. Your face starts to become red, even more when you felt his hand on your waist.

The woman seemed to be dumbfounded as well as she watched the both of you. She probably couldn't believe that she had just bursted out, only to be humiliated in front of so many customers due to a misunderstanding. She clenched her fist. "Curses! All of you!" She then stormed out of the restaurant.

"Yuko! I'm really sorry Mr. Shikanoin, Miss l/n.." The man bowed his head apologetically before rushing out to go after his wife.

"Now that's been taken care of, they'll be forced to talk it out. It's clear that Mrs. Yuko had some pent up frustrations after misunderstanding her husband. Her husband had never committed any affairs but since his wife is too stubborn to confront him, I had to resort to situations that would leave them no choice but to have a heart-to-heart talk" He then turned his head to look at you with a light smile.

"E-Everything was just... A set-up..?"

"I'm sorry" He sheepishly chuckled. "I didn't want things to go too far so I had to come in when things are getting dangerous for you" He finally let go of your waist and patted your head. "Cmon, let's have dinner first, my treat. Think of it as compensation for using you without letting you know beforehand"

You were honestly a bit mad at him that he used you, but since he had apologized and explained, you decided to let it slide for now.

"I'm a bit mad but since you're paying, I'll reconsider. Hmph" You pouted as you sat down on your seat. "If you ever pull that kind of stunt again, I'll really get mad at you"

The detective then sat down on a seat just right in front of you and sheepishly chuckled. "Alright, alright. I'll be careful of what method I use next time"

The two of you then had dinner and left the restaurant together afterwards.

"I'll walk you home since it's getting dark"

"It's not really that far but okay-" You sighed as you just kindly accepted his offer.

You two walked on the streets of Inazuma city, both of you then looked up at the moon that was illuminating the path.

"The moon is beautiful tonight, isn't it?" You heard Heizou utter out as you looked at him then back at the moon.

"I guess indeed it is" You slightly smiled.

When the both of you finally arrived at your home, you two then started saying your farewells before the redhead detective walked away. You thought you had a long day due to how many events had occurred. You immediately went straight to your room and plopped onto your futon before you had fallen asleep with a certain person being the last thing in your mind.
