"About three months ago," Nicholas answered.
"You mean during your last visit?" Richard asked.
"Yes. We met at the club. She caught my attention, and I couldn't look away. We went out a few times before I decided to leave," Nicholas said, trying to weave some truth into his story.
"But wasn't that the same time you broke up with your ex, Ken?" Richard asked, looking back at Kimberly. He was certain it was because he had been there when she tried to be tough about it.
"Yes," Kimberly answered, knowing there was no way to lie.
Richard's gaze shifted between them, searching for any signs. He believed them, albeit with some reservations.
"I'm glad to hear this, even though it would have been quite helpful if you both had told me earlier."
"Dad, you didn't expect me to tell you I had a fling with a girl I just met. And I couldn't tell you later after I discovered she was the Kimberly you wouldn't stop raving about."
