Nicholas woke in the middle of the night, a dull ache throbbing in his bladder. Feeling the urge to use the bathroom, he carefully rose from the couch, his body stiff and sore from the awkward sleeping position.
The suite was silent, save for the gentle rustling of the curtains as the night breeze stirred them.
As he stood, he glanced over at the bed where Kimberly lay, her breathing steady and rhythmic in sleep.
She had kicked off the duvet in her sleep, leaving her arms exposed to the cool air. Nicholas frowned, noting the slight shiver that ran through her body.
He approached the bed quietly, his heart softening as he watched her. Gently, he lifted the duvet and draped it over her, tucking it around her shoulders to keep her warm.
Kimberly stirred slightly, murmuring something incoherent, and Nicholas froze. When she settled back into deeper sleep, he allowed himself a small smile.
