Zaya picked up her phone and held it to her ear, keeping her gaze fixed on Zafar. "Hey, Kabir," she said warmly into the phone.
Kabir spoke for a while, eliciting a laugh from Zaya that visibly affected Zafar, wrenching his heart, causing him to look away.
Realizing the situation, Zaya knew she needed to end her conversation with Kabir as she had made her choice to choose Kabir this time. "Kabir, I have to go. I'm kind of busy right now. Call me when you're at the entrance," she said softly.
They exchanged a few more words before the call ended. A smile on her face, she put down her phone and moved to the cushions in her office, Zafar following suit.
After a few minutes of silence, Zafar spoke up. "You seem happy."
"What brings you here, Zafar?" Zaya asked, maintaining a professional tone. She feared that being too casual might lead to something regrettable.
