Chapter 54 - One hell of a Reunion

Just as she was about to pick up her speed and transition into massively hypersonic territory, the space around her was suddenly frozen and the spatial laws all constricted around her body to keep her in place.

Breaking this spatial lock was simple, and she could do it with relative ease.

However, just as she was about to move her hand once more, she felt a familiar presence materialize behind her, and that made her go completely still.

The spatial lock was removed right after, but she remained still as if frozen in time.

*TAP *TAP

Footsteps resounded across the concrete floor, and in the short moment it took them to reach her, Miranda went through an internal struggle, trying to decide whether to stay or leave.

But the moment she felt a familiar pair of arms wrap themselves around her, the moment she found herself leaning into that familiar embrace she had not felt for thousands of years, the word 'leave' and all its synonyms disappeared from her vocabulary.

Jamie's arms snaked around her waist, pulling her closer to him while he lowered his head, bringing himself to eye level with her.

Miranda's heart was beating wildly as she slowly turned her gaze to the side, locking eyes with the two clear blue orbs that were looking right at her; with their faces being so close that they could feel each other breaths.

That certainly did not help the situation for her at all.

She was lost looking right into those blue eyes that she had missed for thousands of years, her perception of the world around her slowly disappearing as Jamie's presence was the only thing her mind processed.

Miranda did not realise when it started, Jamie did not know who initiated it, Jamie did not care when it started, and Miranda did not care who initiated it.

By the time they both realised, their lips had already been locked in a deep kiss.

The woman's body had already turned, and she now had her arms swung around Jamie's neck and was standing a bit on her toes due to the height difference between the two.

After all, there was quite a gap between 6"1 and 5"7.

The city's distant hum seemed a world away as the two of them lost themselves in each other.

Good thing the open-air rooftop restaurant they were in was closed today.

Jamie's eyes, like twin sapphires set ablaze, bore into Miranda's heterochromatic eyes, their silver locks of hair framing their faces, a striking contrast against the night sky.

As their kiss deepened, their hands moved with an urgency of their own, exploring each other's contours.

The warm sultry breeze rustled through their hair, blending with their laboured breaths.

Lost in the intoxicating sensation, their kiss took on a fervent rhythm, passionate and unrestrained. Slowly, the world around them faded away and the only reality left was the fusion of their lips.

Miranda's fingers gently brushed the nape of Jamie's neck, while his hands slid down the curves of her back.

In their passionate reunion kiss, their bodies did not remain stationary, moving around and accidentally bumping into a nearby wall.

But their kiss didn't falter but instead deepened as if the wall was just another surface for their ardour.

However, just as Miranda felt Jamie's embrace tightening around her, an image suddenly flashed through her mind, snapping her back to reality.

In that instant, she broke away from the kiss and pushed Jamie's back against the wall, before staggering backwards herself.

She ended up hitting a few chairs and tables, making noise that alerted the security who came up to check what was up, but all she needed was a glance to use her Mind Compulsion on him and make him go away.

Staring at Jamie while breathing heavily with a deep blush on her face, she spoke.

"This…was not supposed to happen."

Jamie raised a brow in light confusion, moving his hands to readjust his blazer that Miranda had halfway taken off earlier before asking.

"What? Our meeting or what happened after?"

"…the first one."

"So, the second was supposed to happen…"

Her face flushed even more when Jamie gave that little reply, but despite her light embarrassment, she still spoke out.

"…just not now."

The two of them were still a bit light-headed from the past few minutes of passion, hence this questionable conversation they were having.

Miranda took a deep breath to calm herself, with a blush on her face receding as she looked up at the Hybrid in front of her and spoke.

"The fact that I didn't come to wake you up myself, considering that I usually do that should have told you I didn't want to meet you, should it not?

Especially without any anti-spy preventive measures taken…"

The latter half of her statement was spoken with narrowed eyes, her gaze moving around and locking onto the Inferior Transcendent Vampire who had noticed her when she suddenly blitzed across the city with Hypersonic speed.

The poor man felt chills down the depths of his soul, and her gaze on him made him feel as if he was tossed under the sunlight even though it was clearly still night-time.

"That's your problem? Haa…"

Jamie sighed, turning Miranda's attention back to him as he took a step forward. His foot touching the ground created a patch of darkness on it, which quickly expanded to envelop both him and Miranda.

In a second, the two had vanished into his subspace, leaving nothing but a small spatial tear on the ground—the entrance which was physically imperceptible to anyone below transcendence, save for spatial manipulators.

Jamie had once stated his Subspace was actually a 'Dimensional Realm with its own complete environment where he had absolute control over its aspects'.

The fact that he could bring another living being inside it, was proof of that.

It was basically a 'world' where Jamie was 'god'.

Sadly, he could only access a small portion of it at the moment due to existence realm constraints.

"Now then, let's take this from the top."

Jamie spoke as he pulled out a chair and plopped down onto it, before putting one behind Miranda and continuing.

"It's been a while, Mira."

"It has been exactly 12,018 years, 16 days, 21 hours and 5 minutes.

That's not, just 'a while', Jay."

Leaving aside how they casually slipped into using their nicknames for each other, Jamie was a tad bit surprised that Miranda had counted exactly how long he had not seen her.

But then he remembered this wasn't the first time she had done this and shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly.

"Also, you don't just say things you would on a normal reunion after a five-minute make-out session."

"Come on, Mira. You should know by now that conforming to the norm isn't exactly a thing I'm fond of."

"…"

Miranda only deadpanned at him after that reply, before internally berating the her of a few hours ago who could not hold back her urge to see Jamie when his location was revealed to her.

But then again, the woman could not be blamed, she had not seen Jamie in over 12,000 years.

In fact, it would have been stranger if she could resist.

'Maybe I should have just stayed in the Empire? That way, Jamie would not have been able to find me even if he scanned the entire Solar System.'

Just as she thought that, she then realised that someone had created a small spatial bubble over the restaurant, covering Jamie's subspace entrance and cloaking it from the sight of anyone weaker than themselves.

Her eyes widened slightly as she recognized the aura of the person who did it, with everything instantly falling into place in her mind.

'Denise…! So that's why she told me where Jamie was and goaded me into coming to Estudiam!'

She quickly realised one of her 'subordinates' who went by the name Denise had taken advantage of her desire to see the guy she liked, which resulted in the current situation,

"You've gotten better at concealing yourself, Mira. To think you were this close and I did not realise for so long."

Hearing Jamie's compliment on her concealment abilities pulled Miranda out of her thoughts as she adopted a proud expression, puffing her chest and replying.

"I've also gotten good at spatial displacement too!"

Looking at her, Jamie could almost see her desire for him to praise her, making the man chuckle as she moved towards her and patted her head lightly.

"Yeah, I saw."

For a moment, Miranda was lost in the sensation she had missed, but a moment later she snapped back to reality and pushed him away.

"What is it this time?"

"Did I not just say this was not supposed to happen?! I'm not supposed to be meeting you!"

"Oh really, for what reason?"

"Because…!"

Miranda stopped her words right after she began, her gaze on Jamie shaking a bit as she saw the man casually sit back on the chair he pulled out and spoke.

"I read Estea's records…"
