After strolling for a short while in the park, Kevin found an empty bench under a tree and sat down. He took out his phone from his pocket and tried calling his girlfriend.
No response... again...
Feeling bored, he passed the time by playing on his phone. After two hours, he decided to head back home. While walking, he noticed a few familiar faces in the distance.
They are Jenny and her friends. Kevin did recognize Jenny's friends but couldn't recall the person Jenny was holding hands with.
"Wait, what's she doing here? Shouldn't she be in Pearl Town?" He thought.
Jenny spotted Kevin, who was looking at her from a distance. She said something to the people she was with and walked over to him.
"Jenny, when did you come back? I thought you were in Pearl Town," Kevin inquired.
"Kevin, I think we should break up. I don't love you anymore," Jenny said.
Kevin was shocked. She hadn't answered his calls for a week, and now, when they finally met, she wanted to break up.
"Why do you want to break up with me?" Kevin felt he deserved to know the reason.
One of Jenny's friends saw her talking to Kevin, so she excused herself and joined them.
"Kevin, Jenny wants to break up with you because you are poor. You live in a small rented apartment. Jenny received an offer from a large company, she'll become famous in future. You don't deserve her." Jenny's friend Sophia explained.
"I actually have a new boyfriend now, and he's wealthier than you. So, let's break up," Jenny said.
Kevin felt frustrated. Kevin wondered why she had dated him in the first place if she thought he was poor. She cheated on him but was now trying to make it seem he was at fault.
"Alright then, let's break up," he said. "By the way, when will you return the money you borrowed?"
Jenny was initially happy about the breakup, but her smile quickly turned into a frown when Kevin asked about the money.
"What money?" Jenny asked, looking surprised.
"The money I gave you when we were in a relationship. I gave it to you because you were my girlfriend. But now that we broke up, you need to give it back to me," he said.
The girls were shocked when they heard his words.
Even though his company didn't pay him on time, he managed to save a decent sum of cash. He helped her financially as she had to travel frequently. He didn't hesitate to spend money on her because he truly loved her.
"Why would she give you the money? You spent it on your girlfriend," Sophia asked.
"Yeah, but now she isn't my girlfriend. So she needs to give my money back," Kevin said.
"You're a despicable person, Kevin. I should have broken up with you earlier," Jenny said angrily.
"You cheated on me, used me for my money, and when you found a rich guy, you left me. And now when I ask for my money back, you call me despicable? Didn't you say your new boyfriend is rich? Let's go ask him. Of course, a rich man like him can afford it," Kevin said angrily.
Both Jenny and Sophia panicked upon hearing these words.
"Why are you guys panicking? Let's go," Kevin asked.
"No!" Jenny yelled. "I will return your money in a month."
"Why not now? Is your rich boyfriend, not that rich? Poor him. He might get cheated on like me in the future. I hope he can handle it," Kevin sarcastically commented.
"I can't believe I used to love you. I'll send you the money in a month. Never see me again," Jenny said angrily.
"I can't believe I was so blind to fall for you," Kevin replied, "And trust me, I never want to see your face again. "He walked away.
-----------------------
"Are you really going to return the money to Kevin?" Sophia inquired.
"Of course not. I'll have to make sure Ricky and I get engaged soon. Once I'm part of the Ashford family, do you think this pathetic loser can dare to challenge me?" Jenny replied with a cunning smirk.
"Well done, Jenny, "Sophia commented.
"I used to like you, Kevin. But Sophia is right you don't deserve me." Jenny thought to herself before walking towards her new boyfriend.
