Chapter 14 - Engaged

- In Gilbert house -

"If anyone finds out that the daughter of the Gilbert family works for a small company, it'll damage our family's reputation. You're disgrace to our family," David yelled at his daughter.

Daisy's brother, Michael, watched the scene from a distance with a smirk. He was the one who had informed their father about this.

Everything was going as Daisy had planned. She wanted to leave home today, but somehow, her father had found out. All she could do now was listen quietly to her father's scolding.

"Why can't you be more like your brother? I don't understand why my father wanted you to inherit the company. Your brother is better than you," David continued to yell.

Daisy loves her grandfather. Her grandfather is the only one who truly understands her, but is no longer here. Her grandfather used to support her and always stood by her. After his death, nobody cared about her. That's why she didn't want to stay here any longer.

David walked away feeling frustrated. He was angry with his daughter's actions. He was tired of scolding her every day. He had always given her everything she wanted, yet she had joined a small company without his knowledge, which was embarrassing. He wished she could be more like her brother.

Normally, he wouldn't have minded and might have even asked her to leave because she was just a burden for him. But Mr Philip was interested in her and wanted to marry her. Of course, he agreed. He couldn't let her go now. It was a great opportunity for him to expand his business.

"Daisy, you're already engaged to Mr. Philip. So you need to be careful with your actions," David said.

Daisy retorted, "What do you mean? You never asked if I even like him or not. He's a playboy, and I don't want to marry him."

"Daisy, I know what's best for you. Those are just rumors, none of them are true. Don't believe them," David replied before walking into his office and closing the door.

"Rule 5: Don't cry in front of anyone," Daisy tried hard not to cry.

She thought that today was the end of everything, but things would get even worse from now on.

"Congratulations, Sister," Michael said with a smirk. "I thought you'd be single forever, sis."

Daisy didn't want to hear anything from anyone. If things had gone well, she would have been free. She didn't understand how her father found out about this. She walked to her room and closed the door. She needed time to think.

Even though Lucy was her best friend, Daisy suspects she might be the one who had revealed her secret. If it wasn't for Lucy, who else would have done it?

"Daisy, open the door," Lucy knocked on her bedroom door.

Daisy quickly opened the door and let Lucy in, but she was cautious.

"Rule 1: Don't trust anyone," Daisy told herself. She wasn't going to trust anyone, not even her best friend. People would betray you if you were no longer useful to them.

"Daisy, how did your father find out about your plan? I was so surprised when he said you were engaged to Mr. Philip. How could he do that?" Lucy asked.

"Lucy, do you know how my brother found out that I applied for a job? Only the two of us knew about it," Daisy said.

"Hmm, I also wonder how he found out," Lucy replied.

"I'm exhausted and I just want to sleep, Lucy," Daisy said. She didn't feel like talking to Lucy because she still suspected Lucy.

"Alright, I'll go now," Lucy replied, leaving the room.

Like any other girl, she also wished to meet a man who would love her wholeheartedly. But now her father was pressuring her to marry a playboy.

Thinking about her grandfather made her cry. She could only wish he was here with her now.

Daisy woke up and realized she had cried herself to sleep. She got out of her bed and left her room.

While she was walking down the hallway, she heard noises coming from her brother's room. She headed towards his room and noticed that the door was open.

She pushed the door open.

"Who was Michael with?"
