Focused on Giovanni's marriage preparation, and trying to play Viktor to walk into the trap that he's preparing to take him down once and for all, while using his child as bait, Edward knew that his father's attention had been distracted from where Zyan, the detective who has been in his holding.
His father has gone insane, and to prove that he's slowly losing interest in where he was, and probably where Giovanni is too, by taking away the business deal that was formerly under his supervision over to Micheal, he knew that the games had changed.
If care is not taken, his father would end not just implicating himself but the family as a whole, and he can't have that. It's not as if he wouldn't be brought down to the point of humiliation once he releases that detective, but for the meantime, it's of no use if there wasn't someone else who's trying to stop his father apart from him.
