When Dagon had been informed of a crazed 'demon' outside the city who tore apart Lady Ashter, and then withstood intense damage, he thought that perhaps his head was injured more than he first realized.
It was odd that he hadn't noticed a thing, but remembered a fuzzy conversation with her just before he 'hit' his head (or so he had been told). It made sense that he had some sort of injury, because his head throbbed and nothing made sense to him, not even his own name.
He had to shove off the weakness he felt, because the humans wouldn't fear him anymore otherwise. He had to be invincible. He had to be steady. Even if he was intensely intrigued by the news that the 'creature' who attacked did so even as the sun rose. It wasn't until his flesh had burned off of his bones, melted into a pile, and soaked into the sand that his men had been able to bring the thing into the 'sun chamber'.
