Soon, the elevator doors opened from the inside.
Upon reaching the apartment, Betsy Russell carried the flowers to her study and then placed them inside a clear display bookcase.
As Betsy Russell emerged from the study, she found Jared Hughes waiting by the door. Before she had a chance to speak, he lifted her into his arms.
"Put me down," Betsy Russell said with laughter.
"I missed you!" Jared Hughes responded, planting a kiss on her forehead and whispering, "That's why I came to see you."
Jared Hughes's gaze inadvertently swept over the bookcase, settling on the flowers nestled within, "Beautiful."
Following Jared Hughes's gaze, Betsy Russell said, "Yes, they're pretty in there."
Jared Hughes, cradling Betsy, sat down and handed her a cup of hot brown sugar ginger tea, whispering, "Here."
After drinking the brown sugar ginger tea, Betsy began to sweat—in Jared's embrace, she perspired profusely.
