By the time Betsy Russell reacted, Jared Hughes had already slapped her hand.
The crisp sound of the slap echoed throughout the living room. Betsy was slightly taken aback and quickly let go of his hand, saying: "You..."
Betsy's gaze fell on Jared's face; his chin had grown stubble. He hadn't been able to shave while he was in detention, and he looked somewhat haggard and exhausted.
Seeing Jared like this, Betsy suddenly wasn't angry anymore. She sighed and said softly, "You mustn't hide things from me anymore!"
Betsy continued, "I don't care about your identity at all. I just want you to be okay!"
She was just afraid that something might happen to him.
When Jared heard Betsy say this, his heart softened. He knew he had done something wrong and said, "Don't worry, I promise I'll never do anything to make you worry again!"
Betsy leaned lightly against Jared's chest and whispered, "I missed you so much."
