Jared Hughes looked at Betsy Russell, pursed his lips slightly, and asked, "Betsy, can I invite you to dinner?"
Just as Betsy was about to answer "no time," she heard Jared say, "I don't even have a friend to eat with now."
Betsy: ...
By the time Betsy came to her senses, she was already sitting in Jared's car.
"What do you want to eat?" She asked, thinking that Jared had become quite adept at playing the pity card.
Upon hearing Betsy's question, Jared replied, "Barbecue?"
Betsy nodded slightly and remained silent. She felt that Jared was getting better and better at acting pitiful, and she shouldn't have sympathized with him just now.
After the two finished eating, they ran into acquaintances just as they turned the corner exiting the hotel.
It was Thad Drew and Anna.
Betsy glanced at Thad, her gaze falling on his beautiful fox-like eyes. She felt a sudden thump in her chest and a growing sense of unease. She silently lowered her eyes and walked towards the exit.
