Betsy Russell's feet seemed to be nailed to the ground as she stared at Jared Hughes without blinking. However, as the scene flashed through her mind, she couldn't remember anything.
Betsy laughed – that scene was probably from a TV show or movie she'd watched before.
She walked to the kitchen doorway and saw Jared picking up broken bowl shards to put in the trash. She took a deep breath and went over to help.
"Leave these little things to me in the future. All you need to do is keep an eye on the Hughes family for me," Betsy said as she skillfully threw the shards into the garbage bin.
Jared paused, looking up at Betsy, and whispered, "You've said that before."
Betsy gave Jared a cold glance and continued picking up the broken pieces. After everything was cleaned up, she went to wash her hands.
Betsy's phone rang again. She dried her hands and took a look – it was a call from Natalie. She answered as she walked towards the floor-to-ceiling windows, "Natalie."
