Riiing…. Rrriiiiiing…
Annoying. That damn alarm is so annoying. I groan as I forcefully lift my body from the bed. It's a new day but I'm still too tired to function. But still, I got up and start my morning routine. Just like how I do it every morning, I fix my bed, take a bath, brush my teeth, and get ready for work. Although my job didn't require me to go out of the house, I still preferred to work somewhere else. A place dedicated for work.
I grab my bag and keys and leave the warmth of my home. I managed to avoid my neighbors on my way to the parking lot, which was a relief. I get in my car and drive to my office. I try my best to stay healthy, but I was craving for nuggets and I needed to satisfy myself. I went through the McDonald's drive thru and ordered enough food that would last me all day. As soon I got my order, I rushed off to one of the most high-value condominiums in New York. After parking my car in my reserved spot, I carry everything with me and proceeded to ride the elevator to the Penthouse.
As soon as I got off the elevator, I turned on the lights and made my way to the kitchen. I left the fast food on the kitchen island and proceeded to make coffee. Breakfast was quick. I could laze around here but I knew I had to get some work done. I sigh before taking my mug of coffee with me to my work area. I turn on my gaming computer and start to get comfortable on my swivel chair. Despite my computer being designed for games, I mostly use it for work. Having two screens helps a lot with multi-tasking.
The day went on like usual. I checked on my apartments, making sure that repairs were done and that my tenants were paying their rent. I checked on the staff reports on my other businesses. I had to check for problems and find ways on how to solve them. I had lunch at 4 PM once I finished checking all my businesses. After taking a break for an hour, I went back to work. Checking my emails from my editor and continued to write the chapter that was expected from me. And then I decide to go home at 9 PM.
That's how boring my life is. That's how it is every single day. Get up, go to work, go home, and then go to sleep. My daily schedule doesn't change. Unless of course, when my best friend decides to show up unannounced. I had just gotten off the elevator when I saw a familiar figure sitting in front of my door. I wanted to pretend that I didn't miss him. But not seeing him for two months make it hard for me to hold back from hugging him.
"What took you so long, Addison Lee?" my best friend's warm smile and bone-crushing embrace greeted me as soon as we made eye contact. I chuckled into his chest as I give up on trying to be mad at him. I wrapped my arms around him and embraced him as tightly as he was embracing me.
"You didn't tell me that you were visiting, Sky. But it's good to see you anyway." I pulled away from him and returned his smile.
"Well, I've got a lot of things to tell you! By the way, I missed you so much, Addy."
"I missed you too, Sky. Now let's get inside." I say, finally leading him into my place.
We spent the whole night talking about anything and everything. He told me all about the band he was in. They were getting popular in California, and it seemed that they caught the eye of an agent. He told me how great their synergy was and how great things are going. I was happy listening to my best friend talk. Because in all honesty, his life is a lot more interesting than mine. When he asked me how I've been doing, I tell him how everything's been the same as always. How my businesses were doing great and that I was living comfortably just like I always did.
"So, you still don't have a boyfriend?" he asked out of nowhere. I laughed at his question before deciding to answer it.
"I barely talk to people. How would I get a boyfriend if interacting with people is hard." I lean back on my side of the sofa, thinking of how lonely it gets.
"You know, you should try to meet new people. Get to know them. As much as I want to move back here and stay with you, I can't really leave the band." He rested his head on my lap and held my hand in his.
"I won't ask you to leave the band or to move back. It's enough that you come by from time to time. You know why I don't like letting people into my life."
"I know. But I worry about you all the time. Mom and dad worry about you all the time too. They were even considering moving back here since dad's work in California is over." I hummed thoughtfully.
"They can just move back to your old place. Or they can move here in this building with me. They won't need to pay rent or anything."
"I'll tell them that when I go back home. I want to at least be there in case they just decide to pack up and move back here without any second thoughts. I'm afraid that if I tell them now, they'll suddenly be here in the morning." We both laugh at the thought of his parents suddenly arriving at my door first thing in the morning.
"I wouldn't really mind if they just came here though. They take care of me as if I was their own child. Well, I guess they did raise me. So, I want to be of help to them. If that means providing them a place to call their own, I would do it." I say, thinking back to how they've always been there for me.
"Thank you for loving my parents as much as I love them. By the way, any news on your mom and dad?" he asked carefully. I looked down and met his eyes. I smiled reassuringly before replying.
"They're the same as always. Money is wired into my account at the beginning and end of the month. They're as busy as always and don't really care what I do."
"Well, I'll always be willing to share my parents with you." I gave him a peck on the cheek for what he just said and that earned a giggle from him.
We stayed like that for a while. Just talking while a movie played on the TV. We had been so immersed in talking and catching up that we didn't notice time slipping by. Movie after movie played on the TV but it was mostly ignored and was just background noise to us. It was only when my alarm rang that we realized that we had stayed up all night. By now, we were both too tired and sleepy to do anything. But I had to get ready for work.
Getting up, I was about to go and take a bath when Sky held onto my wrist. I stopped in my tracks and turned to look at him. His eyes were tired and droopy, his hair and his clothes were disheveled, and it made him look so adorable. He pouted at me, tugging at my clothes and patting the sofa. I knew what he wanted. But I had to work. I had to get out of the house.
"I have to work, Sky." I sighed, trying to tug my arm away from him. All he did was pout even more.
"But I'm rarely here. And we both haven't slept. Let's just sleep all day, Addy." He whined, making me coo at how much he looked like an adorable puppy.
"I need to answer my emails and you know I don't like working here." I tried to reason with him, only to receive more whining from him.
"Come on! Let's sleep all day today! I'm going back to California tomorrow so I want to spend the whole day with my best friend." He whined once more. He looked so sleepy and cute. I sighed in resignation and ended up giving into his request.
With that, I dragged the sleepy puppy that is my best friend over to my room where we both crashed on my bed. He pulled the covers around us and pulled me close to him. I felt so warm and comfortable in his arms that soon enough, I was also out like light. He felt so safe, and warm, and comfortable that I just let myself stray from my usual routine and give in to what my best friend wanted. And just like that, we spent the day comfortably in each other's arms.
