With a sudden burst of force, Liam sent the door flying. It sailed through the air, smashing against the opposite wall with a thunderous crash.
The Ascendant's guards, momentarily caught off guard, whipped their heads towards the now-open doorway. But to their surprise, it led to an empty room.
As their gazes swept the room, the full horror of the scene began to dawn on them. Their comrades were now gruesomely impaled. To add to their growing dread, the hostages were nowhere in sight.
The guards, realizing the gravity of the situation, immediately shifted into a defensive formation, weapons at the ready. But an eerie silence had settled over the room. There was no movement, no sound.
