She didn't want to go downstairs know when she knew that I was enemies were waiting there for her to sell her off.
She hated every moment of this. Why her, just why her?
She had a perfect life perfect, perfect everything but now they just had to come and spoil everything for her.
She didn't need to get married, why did you ever need to get married she was just fine on her own. She had everything she would ever need to satisfy her needs.
All she wanted to do was stay in her room and cry at this point.
"Miss Maeve, please come outside. Your father and mother are waiting for you with their house guests"
"No thank you Maria"
"You do know your father and mother will be very angry with you if you do not come outside. I do not want to the young mistress to be punished"
"It is alright I would be down in a couple of minutes just tell her that I am putting on the finishing touches on my makeup"
"But that is my job and I can't leave empty-handed"
"Just go think of some excuse or something"
She heard a loud sigh from the other side of the door.
"Okay I'll think of something"
She didn't have much time with her she had to go down to meet really horrible people that were ruining her life.
After a little pep-talk, she smooth down the skirt of her dress and open the door to go downstairs.
She could hear the chatter and laughter going on downstairs.
Urgh that sounded like it would haunt her at night.
As she descended the stairs, all eyes was on her as all the chatter slowly died down.
"Mio caro, you look lovely come say hi to our guests and of course your future fiance"
Her mother grabbed onto her hand and dragged her off the stairs.
As her eyes dragged across the room her expression morphed from a look of distress into a horrible look of disgust.
"What is he doing here?"
"Oh, are you talking about Nicolo?"
"Yes, I am" she frowned
"Do not tell me he's the one I 'marry'"
"Wouldn't you like that" he chuckled
She took one look at him before deciding she wasn't going to do this.
She turned around, ready to rush upstairs but the vice grip on her wrist warned her not to.
"Excuse my darling Maeve, she didn't get much sleep" Her mother tugged her down
"No go greet them like the bambino I raised you as"
Huffing quietly, she walked towards the only empty seat, which just had to be beside Nicolo and plopped down.
An older lady cleared her throat and smiled warmly.
"Maeve darling, greet your future mother inlaw" Her mother smiled warmly at the woman
She scoffed under her breath. No fucking way.
Mindless chatter continued on, most of the time her presence was completely ignored and she felt helpless. Was this the life she was going to live? Empty words and mindless laughs?
She could almost cry.
Clearing her throat, she looked around.
"Where is the man I am supposed to marry?"
"I believe that would be me" An older looking man grabbed her hand and kissed it.
She could feel her stomach drop at the sight. If he was at least attractive she would have been able to adjust to her life as a worthless child producer, destined to be cheated on and used.
But the man Infront of her was nothing like that, in fact, she was appalled by the man's greying hair and old appearance.
What now they were getting her a sugar daddy?
She gagged, feeling like throwing up. Him? Of all people?
She could feel throw up lingering at the back of her throat when he held onto her hand and refused to let go.
"Excuse me" she snatched her hand back and quite literally ran to the kitchen, her mother following her shortly
"What the hell was that?!" Her mother said
"Excuse me if I felt disgusted by the appearance of my 'future fiancee' but mio Dio, you could have saved us all the time wasted by telling me he was an old man. I would have hung myself to save us all the trouble"
"He might be a little older than you but he is a sweetheart"
"Sweetheart?! The man was going to town on my hand! Literal making out with the back of my hand" she wailed, thrusting her hand Infront of her mother's eyes.
There, right in the middle of her hand was a red spot.
"It must have been a mistake"
"I am not marrying that man mother"
"Oh shut up. we chose the best match for you. be grateful"
"Grateful? Grateful?! Mother that man repulses me, actively. I disagree to go on any further with this"
"Aww, the little princess isn't getting what she wants"
"stai zitto Nicolo" she snapped at him. Glaring at him, she rolled her eyes and looked away
"Maeve Rosalinda Giuseppe. Behave, now you will go back there and have a lovely brunch with your future inlaws and enjoy it. Do I make myself clear"
"Do. I. Make. Myself. Clear?" Huffing, she rolled her eyes and walked out of the kitchen
"I apologize for her behavior. You see she has not quite come around to the idea"
"I completely understand"
Flashing him a smile full of contempt, she walked out after her daughter.
~•~
Maeve had sat down for this boring dinner for such a long while she was getting entertained by the painting behind her brother's head.
It was only when she got a kick on her leg did she snap back to reality and glared at the culprit.
Nicolo, that cagna.
"Maeve, darling, I heard you went to Thailand not too long ago, how was it there" The woman stared at her...warmly?
She could practically see the envy and disgust oozing out of her pores. What was this sorry act she put on?
"Certainly somewhere exotic and beautiful, ah, I am not quite sure if someone with your background would understand what I mean right? Anyways, it wasn't as interesting as the last time I was there" She said, obviously digging at the fact she came from a small town and not one of the daughters of a fellow business associate
The woman cleared her throat at the obvious insult.
"Well Antonio here has been there five times right? He'd show you all the exciting places next time hm?"
"What would be the use? It would be better to hire a tour guide at that point. The only difference is that....wait, oh my, there is not any. They would both be a waste of time, effort and money" She huffed, looking at her salad once more.
The woman cleared her throat again.
"Antonio, why not try to get to know your future wife hm?"
"No thank you"
"What was that dear?"
"Oh nothing. Well, I thought mother informed you? Oh well, I had an earlier arrangement after brunch but, I could cancel" She sighed dramatically.
"Oh no dear, I wouldn't want to spoil any plans, go on now. I'd discuss the rest with your parents"
"Oh but I simply could never"
"Go on dear"
Standing up, she curtsied a bit before walking up the stairs.
Glancing at Nicolo, she chuckled underneath her breath and gave him one last sinister smile before ascending to her room.
Oh well, it wasn't perfect but this would have to do for now.
But till next time, she'd have to figure out any way to stop this from happening by all means possible.
