Chapter 1 - Normal

"Mom, I'm off to school," I called from the front door. I'm Kelsey Quill. I'm eighteen with long blond hair and brown eyes and I'm a senior in high school. I'm so ready for school to end.

"When will you be home?" Mom called from the kitchen.

"I'm not sure." I might have said school but I never come straight home. "I want to check out that new club so it will probably be late. Don't wait up."

"Alright. Have a good day."

"Bye." I shut the door and ran onto the bus. I sat in the back. I pulled out my phone and saw the new club opened whenever it got dark. Which was nine p.m. I texted Mom the information so she would know it might be early morning by the time I got home. Good thing I can function with little sleep. That and I'm lucky tomorrow is a Saturday. She texted back saying that's fine but I had to eat something so I told her I would. They might not have anything I like at the club but they might. I heard someone mention the new club and started listening. What? It's not eavesdropping. We're on a bus. Not much else to do but listen to other people's conversations, right?

"It will be so much fun," one girl said. She had green hair.

"Odd name though," said a girl with blue hair.

"Bloodred is a perfect name," green hair objected.

"Whether it is a good name or not, it will be fun," said a boy with red hair.

"True," blue hair agreed.

"I bet the inside is painted red, hints the name," green hair said.

"Red is a terrible color," blue hair muttered. The others agreed.

Red wasn't a bad color. But that was my opinion. The bus dropped us off. Everyone went to their friends and I sighed. Why have friends when you can have fun on your own? I know my parents wanted me to have friends but I like having fun by myself. No peer pressure at all. Though I am sort of friends with all my teachers. Don't worry. That doesn't make them give me straight A's. I do that on my own.

I went to class. Mr. J turned to me. "Hello, Miss Quill."

"Hello, Mr. J. Have you heard about the new club?"

He snorted. "I have. It seems like almost everyone is going."

"Are you?"

"No. Unlike you kids, I like to sleep on my days off."

I laughed and sat in my seat. Everyone poured in and sat. Huh, the people talking on the bus are in my class. I looked at the door, watching everyone come in. A new guy came in and he was gorgeous. Blue eyes and short black hair with muscular-looking arms. I guess you could call it brawny, maybe. He sat two seats to my right. I decided not to look at him because I might end up dreaming about him.

Everyone had come in and Mr. J shut the door. Green hair raised her hand. "Yes, Maria?" Mr. J asked.

"I think this has to do with science so I thought I'd ask. Is it possible to create a vampire?"

I turned to look at her and saw that the new guy had stiffened. Odd. I looked at Maria. "Vampires don't exist," I said.

She rolled her eyes. "That's why I said create."

"Why would you want to make one? People would die because the vampires would kill them."

"Not if we make it so they drink animal blood."

I snorted. "Impossible."

"I asked Mr. J not you."

"It is not possible to create a vampire," Mr. J said. "What brought this question on? Is it because Halloween is close?"

"A little," Maria said.

"Well, the question was answered. Now we have a new student with us today. His name's Jem Valtor," Mr. J said. "Would you like to come to the front and tell us about yourself, Mr. Valtor?"

"No, thank you," Valtor said in a velvety smooth voice.

Mr. J nodded and began talking about chromosomes and stuff. I side-glance and saw Valtor watching me. I blushed and look back to the front. At lunch, I sat with Maria's group but only because they were talking about the club again.

"I wonder what music they'll play," Maria said to blue hair.

"Rock? Country? Who knows?" Blue hair said.

"I hope we'll be able to dance."

"Ugh," the red hair boy said. "I hope they don't."

Honestly, dancing was embarrassing. I didn't understand how people could do that without getting stage fright. I freeze and can't unfreeze myself.

I looked toward the cafeteria doors and saw Valtor walk in with two people. A boy and a girl. The boy had blue eyes and black hair. The girl had brown hair but had the same blue eyes. Siblings? I mean they all had the same colored eyes. The boy that I don't know looked at me and Valtor elbowed him. Which made the boy look away. Odd but not unusual. I thought about going over and introducing myself when the boy started heading over.

He stopped in front of me. "Hi. I'm Robin Valtor."

Ah, so they're brothers. I smiled. "Hello, I'm Kelsey Quill."

"Nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you too." I hesitated. "You look a lot like your brother."

He chuckled. "I do, I suppose."

"The girl has blue eyes too. Is she your sister?"

"Who? Mika? Nah, she's my wife."

Huh. "You're married? In high school?"

"Yes."

"Wow."

"Will you be at…"

"Enough, Rob," Mika said.

I blinked. When had she shown up?

Robin grinned. "Aw, come one, Mika. It's just a question."

I gave a small smile. "Yeah, I'm going to the club later."

Mika frowned. "I don't think you should."

I frowned too. "Why?"

"No reason," Robin said quickly, glaring at Mika.

Mika shrugged. "He's right. I was just thinking it would be crowded."

I nodded. "Probably. A lot of people are planning to go." The bell rang and we headed to our classes. Mr. J told us that the school was throwing a Halloween party. I mentally groaned. Halloween is the worst holiday ever. Everyone gets forced to go to those stupid things. My mom is probably doing to make me go and force me to dress as a witch. Ugh.

Maybe I'll pretend I'm sick that day. It might not work but at least I tried. Candy isn't a problem because I don't like it. Mom will volunteer to make the decorations. My dad doesn't like Halloween either, thank goodness. Mr, J explained that we were allowed to bring homemade stuff if we wanted. Wich means cookies and cupcakes all with Halloween colors. They taste good, I'll admit that but I hate still hate Halloween. They should ban the stupid holiday. If they did, I will throw a party but only invite Halloween haters.

I'm not bringing anything. Finally, school ended and I went to the mall to kill some time. When it was dark I headed over to the club. There was no line and no security guards so I just walked in.
