"Where are you going?" Amara shouts at her daughter when she runs away chasing her brother. Amara is worried that Amaya will be in danger. She asks her soldiers to chase Amaya and bring her home.
Amaya is running away due to the fact that her brother will be confronting the half-bodied manananggal. She was sneaking out for a month to follow her brother in the forest; she saw her brother practicing magic with a god and she wants to see her brother in action.
"Aaahh!" a loud scream of a little girl. Amaya heard it and saw the soldiers were running so she followed them. There she saw the little girl taken by the manananggal. Looking up, her brother is also flying, chasing the creature.
Dodong cannot shoot for fear of hitting the little girl so he followed the manananggal. The wind is guiding him and makes him fly faster. Noticing David, the creature flies down the forest to distract him and slow him down.
"ek-ek-ek" The manananggal's voice is disturbing and creeps him out. He noticed that the creature becomes two. So, this creature has an accomplice. The new one distracts David while the other takes the child somewhere.
"Hello!" David is shocked to hear the greetings of the creature. Upon hearing this, David stopped. He asked him why they are doing this and who they are. The creature laughed and did not answer. Its nails grew like the aswang.
David is already familiar with this creature. In those days that he was practicing, he asked his mother Amara about the manananggal. Her mother said that they can separate their bodies. They prey on pregnant women and suck the baby out; they also prey on children or newlywed couples. In order to defeat them, he needs to find the lower body and put salt on it. That is the only way to kill it.
What he will do not is beat its upper half and bind it so it cannot leave then find its lower half. It will not be too far since these creatures need to go back to their lower body before sunrise.
In the spur of the moment, the manananggal charges at him and scratch its claws on his face. Due to training with Lihangin, his body voluntarily dodge it. It will be disadvantageous if the creature will fight at close range. He practiced archery which requires distance from the enemy.
He flies high and shoots the creature. The creature evades it as it is not fast enough to hit its body. The manananggal is closing the distance while Dodong is shooting wind arrows.
The creature flies quickly and appears right in front of him. It stabs him with its nails as he is surprised. Then it flaps its wings as a form of attack like birds do. David is bleeding due to the nails that prick him. He immediately widens the distance.
He is worried about the little girl who was taken by the other creature. With this in mind, he remembers that Lihangin blessed him and that the wind will be with him. He flaps his wings harder and glides through the wind. The wind guides him and made him more agile. With the blessing of the god activating, his shooting power becomes stronger and many arrows were shot. The creature is evading however since the arrows are too fast one wind arrow blitz a hole in its body and its wings.
"Earth bind" He cast a spell that will bind the creature and make him incapable of moving. The soil creates a rope-like shape that binds it. He strengthens the soil so that no matter how the creature moves, it will not break.
Where did that creature go? I need to save that child. He is mumbling to himself as he flies around the forest. The sky is clear and the moon is bright as if the gods are helping him.
"Do not eat me. No!" he heard the frightened voice of the girl. The wind whispers the girl's voice to him and guides him to where the creature is. The creature is ready to feast on the pitiful child. Its mouth opens wide and its nails grow like knives. David aims at it and shoots it however only its hand was hit. The agonizing shriek of the creature is deafening as it is struck by David's arrow.
In its anger, it slaps the little girl and throws it.
From the distance, Amaya sees her brother fighting the creature. When they are in the air fighting, Amaya took the girl away from them and hides. She keeps on watching the fight. After a while, David defeated the hideous creature and binds it with his earth spell.
He searches for the child and saw it lying. Amaya ran away and hid after the fight and his brother searches for the child. David moves the child and the creature using his earth spell. The ground moves them to where the other creature is. He waited for the sun to rise since he cannot find the lower bodies of these creatures.
When the sun rises, the creatures will return to their human form and will disappear in ashes when the sun's rays hit them.
Amaya also waits for it to witness the appearance of the creatures' human form. She is also curious if these are from their village.
The sun rises and lights the surroundings. The two manananggal slowly turn back to their human form. Amaya and Dodong are both surprised when they see their faces. They are the siblings who visit their village. The girl is the one whom David likes. It was love at first sight. David still remembers how he held his arms around the girl's waist to save her from falling. His attentiveness to every ingredient when he served them the food in his store still lingers on.
He was planning on courting the girl after he removes the danger in his village. He already chose which flower to give and the food to serve in order to make her like him.
Amaya saw the sadness of his brother. She knows that her brother is really in love with the girl. She saw him baking a new dessert after he practice magic.
"This is destiny." He accepts that it really is the girl she likes whom he killed. However, he is still happy for the village since the danger has been dealt with.
For a week, Amaya pities her brother. She has not seen him smile after that confrontation. She prays to the god to help him find comfort and love again.
"Look at him. Hahahaha! He became devastated after that fight. Did you really choose well? Why did you choose him?" A certain god asked the god who transmigrated David and gave him magic.
"That is the reason why I chose him. He is pure and true." The god answered.
"Can he endure what is to come?"
"Let us wait for that."
