Listening to Amaris, Cale believed that he had somehow stumbled by chance into the gap that opened when Perez broke through the company's firewall. Since the dates matched, it was the most likely guess.
"You don't seem surprised?" Amaris asked. "Or did you come to rescue Reyna too?"
"I thought you would have noticed by now," he smiled.
"Are you looking at my memories again?" her eye twitched.
"Not all of them," he said shamelessly, and when Amaris grabbed his cheek and pulled hard, Cale grabbed his stinging cheek.
"Shameless bastard! If you ever read my memories again without permission, I'll do much worse things to you than this!"
"Okay, okay, I'm sorry. I won't do it again," he said, crossing his fingers behind his back.
Cale smiled innocently when Amaris raised one eyebrow and looked at him. Still tugging hard on his cheek, Amaris used her other hand to reveal the hand Cale had hidden behind his back.
