As Cale read the terms of the contract Amaris had sent him, he accepted the offer as there was nothing against him.
"Perfect," Amaris said, and when Cale signed the contract, she immediately put herself down and closed her eyes.
"Hey, why don't you open your sleeping bag and go to sleep?" Cale said to her, his words sounding like a lullaby in her ears, and she was already asleep.
Cale was surprised and sighed with a slight smile on his face. So he pitched the tent while Amaris slept and carried her inside. After covering her, he went outside the tent and built a fire.
When it was completely dark, Cale's fire was now the only light around. He felt strangely alone in the forest, where there was no sound but the crackling of wood.
It was because of Amaris, who was sleeping a few feet away from him, that he felt so far away from his friends who had been with him in his previous life, even though they were now side by side.
