Chapter 10 - One Day Off

Ebony was enjoying her one day off per usual. Normally, James would barge in and give them training, while also keeping them up with major events. However, today was Ebony's weekly day off. If Ebony did not get this day off, she would utterly lose it. Not to mention her sister, the little sadist she was, would probably become a maniac if she trained all the time.

Ebony had a suspicion that James believed she blamed him for turning her sister into a sociopath. This was surprisingly not true, but she wasn't gonna tell James that. Still though, her sister becoming this way didn't exactly fill Ebony with joy. She knew that it probably would have happened eventually, so she should probably thank James for drilling consequences into Verity's head so that she didn't go overboard and become another Jillian.

Whatever. Today, all that was not Ebony's problem.

Then, she heard a knock on the door. Ebony sighed and slowly got up. Ever since James showed Verity off like a rare prize, using her "special card" or whatever he called it, they had been receiving "visitors" almost every day, looking to get Verity's card. If there was something she did blame him for, that little stunt would be it. Although, Ebony had to grudgingly admit, their lives did get a whole lot better because of it. Considering how good Verity was, and the fact that Ebony was no slouch either, money and other valuable stuff had started to get added to their collection.

They went from little below average financially, to pretty wealthy, although by no standards rich. They also got a sweet new sofa, and a pretty decent flat screen tv out of it too. Ebony would have never thought of most of it, but Verity did. Verity became almost obsessed with money when she realized she could get it. Made sense to Ebony, considering they never had much of it. Still though, the money obsession was starting to get worrisome for Ebony. Verity was so obsessed with money and riches you could almost see dollar signs in her eyes when she set her stakes for games.

Ebony decided that maybe she should probably bring her sister back to the light side once again. Could she undue all the damage Battlefield did to her though? That was a question Ebony struggled with for months. She knew that she would probably have to deal with the fact the answer is more then likely no.

The knocking got slightly louder, and more insistent.

Ebony shook herself out of her thoughts. Someone was at the door, she needed to stop stalling and get it over with. She decided to put on her happy face, because being polite never hurt. She went over, and gladly opened the door, only to be confronted with...

James knew he had to go to Ebony and Verity. He didn't really have much choice in the matter, they went from a little extra to vitally important to his new scheme. He suddenly had a desire to win, if only to beat that kid who humiliated him. No more hiding, no more mister nice guy, he was going straight to the top. To do that, he needed his team.

So, James swallowed what pride he may have had left, and knocked on the door to Ebony's house. Honestly, they really spruced up the place since a year ago. When Ebony took awhile, he knocked louder and more persistently.

Then Ebony opened the door. The fake smile on Ebony's face froze at the sight of James, and James suddenly wondered if maybe this was a bad idea. It was Ebony's one day off, after all.

Emily's smile stood frozen for about a minute, before it crumpled into something resembling disgust and anger. Ebony was severely tempted to just shut the door in his face, but didn't. If James was here in her one day off, it must legitimately be something vital that needs to be known.

So, Ebony moved away from the door and beckoned James inside. James could only nod as he walked past, and Ebony knew that something must have happened, because James would never give up the chance to give her a mocking smile.

Ebony looked outside the door, wondering if something followed him. All she saw was the dim sunrise and a teenage boy, twirling a white stick. She sighed, before closing the door. Guess she wasn't getting that day off after all.
