Chapter 32 - Chapter 31: Hunting a Kobold Lord V.5

Cathleen explained to me how I can imbue divinity to my weapon or to a skill but it was hard to grasp. The process is similar to imbuing objects with mana but applying Divinity to objects requires creating paths where the divinity will flow.

"The skill I used last night where I made a light come up from the ground to obliterate enemies was just one of the basic spells that use divinity. Simply, I had to pour out divinity from my body to the ground and draw a circle path right where I needed the divinity to flow then I just release it whenever it fills up a certain amount," she turned on teacher mode and started explaining it to me in its simplest form.

"It's complicated..."

"The process is quite complex and complicated, but actually if you memorize the shape of the paths and their flowing direction, you can just visualize the entire path as a whole and instantly cast them. There's no need to do it step by step."

"I see. Then can you teach me any more simple paths?"

"The paths depend per person. I'm a priestess so I mostly use circles and triangles. You use a spear which is more close range so it is up to you to find what kind of path you need to make. I can only teach you the process."

"So I have to create my own path?"

"Yes! Exactly."

The concept seems to be more simpler than I thought but what kind of shapes do I even need? I tried out making triangles, swords, daggers, snakes, helix, and squares paths but none of them worked. If I were a spear, what shape would I be?

I tried out just making a 2-point line. The spear glowed intensely and when I swung it, it left a light afterglow.

"Congratulations! You actually made your path faster than I expected."

"I see, it was that easy..."

"I told you so!"

"Thank you," I bowed and smiled getting hyped to hunt Trolls.

"Hmm? So you can smile hehe. How about we test out your newly gained knowledge to a Kobold Lord."

"What? I haven't even encountered any kobold..."

"But I did though? And I also found their stronghold."

"So you want me to barge in guns blazing?"

"YEP!"

I don't know what is wrong with this girl but she knows how to stimulate me to do it.

"Alright, I'll agree for once," I packed up a few foods and placed them in the inventory in case we take a long while traveling.

"That subspace really is convenient..." she whispered to herself.

"Lead me the way, I'll count on you for the support."

"How prideful," she said under her breath but I still heard her. I should be cautious when I'm around her. I don't know what she is up to.

...

We arrived in the middle of a mountain and there was a nearby cliff. There lies a big stronghold filled with kobold monsters. A horde is an underestimate, at this point, it looks like an army stronghold waiting to go to war. It was my first time seeing a kobold but they looked similar to goblins although they are much shorter and brownish in color with a muscular body.

"So you've been fighting these monsters alone?" I asked Cathleen.

"Yeah, they are easy to deal with," she replied with confidence.

"I'll be going in, you support me."

"Alright," she didn't hesitate one bit.

I leaped forward and tried imbuing Divinity to the spear. I struck the ground with great force and broke the surrounding land. I dove deep into their formation, I'm encircled. Not long after, a wall of light formed behind me and protected me from the approaching kobolds at the back. I was able to focus on wiping out the ones in front of me. Every time I swing the spear I could feel like the Divinity increases.

"This takes too much time and effort," I drew a half circle and released it at the swing of my spear causing a wide shockwave of light. Although it was incomparably weaker than the straight 2-point line, its area of effect is wider, able to take down the weaker kobolds. It took some time to take down most of the kobolds but their numbers are still great.

"I don't seem to feel my Divinity decreasing."

{Your Divinity is not borrowed rather it is granted so it will never decrease but only continue to increase.}

"I see. Thanks for the information, could've said that the first time."

I continuously swing and thrust chipping away the numbers of the kobolds.

{You have angered the Kobold Lord. The kobolds near the Kobold Lord will go berserk.}

{Sudden Mission}

- Kill the Kobold Lord 1x

Reward upon completion: Epic skill card (Bound)

Penalty: Death, removal of one existing skill

How motivating, an epic skill card for killing a Kobold Lord.

{Due to your enormous presence, further interference would attract-}

Sure, sure. I can't rely too much on the system now. I have to do most of the things with my own understanding now.

{Epic/ Golden Kobold Lord Lv. 79}

Excuse me? An epic and a golden? Wow. I uhh... At this moment I was left quite speechless when the Kobold Lord entered the scene.

Beams of light came out of the ground killing the kobolds near me.

"Ras, take care of the Kobold Lord, I'll handle the small fry."

"Will do!" I rushed toward the Kobold Lord jumping from one kobold to another. It took me some time to reach the Kobold Lord.

I created Arrow shaped paths not knowing what would come out. Every Arrow path I make, the light bends and forms the shape of a spear and flies in the direction of the path. It was easy to hit the Kobold Lord since it is big in size but no matter what I throw at it, it appears to be unharmed. The Kobold Lord drew its gigantic axe from its back and swung with great force that it created wind disturbances that even the other kobolds nearby went flying. Nevertheless, I keep shooting spears made of light to its body but it kept on being destroyed and leaving no harm to the Kobold Lord.

"I see, is that something similar to magic resistance?"

I gave up on my plan to handle it while keeping my distance. I rushed toward the Kobold Lord without using any Divinity. I struck one of its ankles to take it down but even my cuts without Divinity are shallow, way too shallow. Nevertheless, I keep striking the same spot taking advantage of the slowness of its movement because of its massive body. The Kobold Lord stomped its foot creating tremors to the ground and a massive wind shockwave and sent me flying a few meters back. Then it swung its axe and I dodged it by a hair. I climbed the axe and ran up the body trying to take down one of its eyes. This Kobold Lord is like a titan!

Once I reached its face the other hand smacked its own face, I barrel rolled to the shoulders thinking I really wouldn't be able to make it. I targeted its neck and chip away at it. I only made small wounds and then a beam of light started hitting the wounded area so it wouldn't have any time to recover by a bit. Cathleen's attack was super effective in that it pierced through the neck and left a big hole.

"That should kill it, right?"

{Kobold Lord Unique trait: Evolution activates.}
