Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: A New Life

Over the next few days, Soham slowly adjusted to his new infant body and unfamiliar surroundings. The giants caring for him with tireless patience and affection were now clearly his adopted parents.

The lady with the kind eyes and soothing singing voice was his new mother. She had long, flowing golden hair that shone like silk in the sunlight, and warm brown eyes the color of honey. Her skin was fair and unblemished, with a light dusting of freckles across her nose. She tenderly held Soham close whenever he cried, nursing him with warm milk that fulfilled his frequent hunger.

The big bearded man Soham assumed was his father had dark brown, almost black hair clipped short, piercing blue eyes, and a strong jawline covered in coarse stubble. His large frame was muscular and imposing, but he moved gently when handling his new baby boy. This was Alaric, Soham's new father. Alaric always greeted him with a wide grin and silly faces that never failed to make Soham giggle.

Bit by bit, Soham's vision improved, though everything still appeared somewhat fuzzy around the edges. The large shapes of furniture around the spacious, well-lit room had intimidated him at first. But he felt safe and protected wrapped snugly in soft blankets or nestled against his mother's chest, listening to the comforting rhythm of her heartbeat.

Other giants periodically entered the room - relatives and servants, Soham guessed. They would fuss and fawn over him, which often made Soham feel uncomfortable. But mostly the giants kept their distance, leaving him alone with his new parents.

Soham's time was largely consumed simply with eating, sleeping and observing all he could about his new surroundings. Communication was frustratingly limited to crying when he felt wet or uncomfortable in some way. But his attentive mother and father somehow always seemed to understand his needs, springing into action to change or feed him even before he could make a sound.

At night, Soham would gaze out the room's large window, marveling at the dazzling blanket of foreign stars splashed across the night sky, wondering what exciting adventures this new world held in store for him. Though he still missed his old life at times, glimmers of hope and excitement for the future emerged whenever his new parents cradled him lovingly in their arms.

Soham's thoughts remained fuzzy and muddled, not yet fully grasped by his underdeveloped infant mind. But on an instinctual level, he felt welcomed and loved in this unfamiliar new home. These giant beings were now his family. As the days passed, the initial uncertainty and fear were slowly replaced by a growing sense of belonging.

Perhaps this second chance at life would not be so scary after all. Soham still had little control over his clumsy new infant body or his circumstances. But wrapped in the safety and comfort of his attentive parents' arms, the possibilities ahead seemed endless. All he needed was time to grow and learn.
