Chapter 4 - Bisso-galeto (3)

Ever since the mirror broke, the situation has escalated. The heroes broke formation and scattered to try to avoid direct confrontation with the monster. At this point I'm sure they haven't thought of a plan b, I just hope they haven't panicked but are looking for some way out of this tricky situation.

The bisso-galeto seems furious and is running at every person he sees. It is not that the heroes are not trying to attack the creature but their powers are not yet developed enough to inflict damage on the beast. On the contrary, Alie's blast of water and Aryana's burst of wind only had the effect of enraging the monster even more.

It's been a few minutes now that they've been playing catch with the bisso-galeto and by now Darman has little time left, it's true that Yelizaveta's power has not only alleviated the pain but also lengthened the time needed for the death of the infected but she's only managed to gain a few minutes so I estimate that the boy has 7-8 minutes left at most

The monster is about to attack Usire, who runs away in fear. However, the bisso-galeto is faster than the boy and has almost caught up with him when he is hit by a stone, turns around and sees that it was Ambesa who threw it. The creature leaves Usire alone and charges Ambesa, but when he is about ten metres away, the hero creates a bump big enough to trip the bisso-galeto and while the latter is falling from the nearby bush, a girl emerges. Snow-white skin, almond-shaped eyes, long, straight black hair, but above all an outstretched bow. It is Akimi who shoots a rose-lit arrow at the neck of the beast. Normally an arrow, even at close range, could not scratch the skin of the bisso-galeto, but thanks to her power Akimi enhanced her arrow, which managed to penetrate the monster's neck, though not inflicting a fatal blow.

The creature falls to the ground in pain, the arrow takes on a violet colour and everything but the tip crumbles on contact with the beast's blood. The bisso-galeto tries to get up, but Alberich intervenes promptly and unleashes a red light, aggravating the monster's wound, which falls back to the ground. Not even ten seconds pass before Yelizaveta arrives, carrying a fragment of the mirror. The monster immediately closes his eyes but Alberich opens its eyelids with his fingers. The poison infects the boy who cries out in pain and lets go of the bisso-galeto's eyelids, but that moment when the monster's eyes were open was enough for it to see its reflected image. The beast's eyes turn completely white and fall lifeless to the ground.

Our group may have defeated the monster but they have no time to celebrate their victory. Leaving aside Alberich, who, thanks to Yelizaveta's care, has about a quarter of an hour to live, Darman is in a much more serious condition and if he is not treated in five minutes at most he will lose his life. The heroes, carrying the two poisoned men on their shoulders, run back to the village as quickly as possible.

It didn't take them long to reach the village, a couple of minutes or so, and waiting for them was guess who? Correct answer (I think)! In front of the entrance to the forest is the priestess who first administers the antidote to Darman and Alberich and then congratulates the heroes on completing their first mission.

Now that they are all safe, the girl asks the heroes to check their screens. The eight do so and from their astonished faces I guess that something has changed, they have probably levelled up. And indeed they have, although I guess it was obvious to everyone, but that's not the end of the story since the priestess (who at this point would be better to call Miss Tutorial) started explaining how the level increase is not the same for all heroes but is much faster for those blessed by the major gods. If in fact Alberich and the others blessed by the seasons have risen to level 2 the ones blessed by the elementals have already risen to level 5. The reason why this happens is not really clear to me, but it is also true that the priestess did not bother to give a proper reason, she merely said that since the major gods are stronger than the minor gods this affects the amount of experience points gained, an explanation which to be honest does not convince me much.

Although I was not convinced by Miss Tutorial's explanation, I imagine it made perfect sense for the heroes since during the priestess' lecture their faces changed expression. As you might imagine, the blessed by the seasons did not have a happy expression at all while the blessed by the elementals had a bright smile on their faces. The only one who did not react to this news was Ambesa.

I have to remember to keep an eye on that boy, not only does he behave abnormally compared to his comrades but I am more than sure that the coordinated attack that killed the bisso-galeto was his idea, but above all, he is the only one of the eight heroes whose every word I can clearly understand.
