Kai and Cal pulled up in their sleek black car at the scene, where a crowd had gathered around the lifeless body of Kyle, lying there with a gaping hole in his chest. The place had an eerie aura, the setting sun casting long shadows over the area.
Kai eyed the corpse and then glanced at Cal, a frown creasing his forehead. "Looks like the same wound as that other case a few days back, right?"
Cal nodded in agreement, his gaze fixed on the lifeless form. "Yeah, these aren't your usual crimes, that's for sure."
Their attention shifted to a police officer standing nearby, and Kai gestured for him to come over. "Hey, officer, any CCTV around here?"
The officer shook his head, his expression somber. "Nah, we only have CCTV at the entrance of the residential area. Nothing inside."
Kai sighed, rubbing his temples. "Figures." He then turned back to the officer. "What time did he die?"
The officer consulted his watch. "Around 7 pm, according to the initial reports."
Cal exchanged a look with Kai. "Well, that matches the other case too."
Kai's eyes fell on the officer's tablet, and he asked, "Can we see the CCTV footage?"
The officer nodded and pulled up the footage on the tablet. The screen flickered to life, showing a quiet street for a couple of minutes. Then, the figures of two people entered the frame, strolling down the street. They were a young man and a woman, both appearing to be in their early twenties.
Cal leaned closer, studying the footage. "They seem to know where they're going."
Kai nodded, his eyes never leaving the screen. "Yeah, but check this out." He pointed as another couple appeared in the frame, seemingly following the first pair.
Cal raised an eyebrow. "That's some interesting timing."
Kai reached out to rewind the footage, focusing on the first couple. "Officer, can you run their data through the database?"
The officer nodded and quickly fetched the information. Kai and Cal huddled around the tablet as the details popped up. "The boy's a 17-year-old student at Starlight School," Kai read aloud, his brow furrowing. "And the girl... she's listed as missing?"
Cal's eyes widened in surprise. "Missing? And what about the second couple?"
The officer pulled up more data. "The deceased man is Kyle, and the other girl is Maira. Not much information on her."
Kai and Cal exchanged a glance, their minds racing. "This is getting weirder by the minute," Kai muttered.
Cal nodded in agreement. "We need to find these three. Officer, can you get their last known locations?"
The officer nodded and went to work, while Kai and Cal decided it was time to bring this news to their team captain, Michelle. They headed back to their car, the weight of the situation heavy in the air.
Kai started the engine, glancing at Cal. "Buckle up, buddy. We've got a lot to discuss with the branch leader."
Cal sighed and fastened his seatbelt. "Yeah, and I have a feeling something big is brewing."
As the car roared to life, they zoomed down the road, leaving behind the chilling scene and heading toward their next move.
