Kai and Cal pulled up in front of Michelle's house, anticipation building as they rang the bell. The door opened to reveal Michelle, the leader of the SBC's New Haven branch.
Without missing a beat, Kai and Cal snapped salutes, a sign of respect for their superior.
"Come on in, guys," Michelle said, gesturing for them to enter. They followed her inside, a mix of professionalism and familiarity in the air.
Settling into the living room, Michelle looked at them expectantly. "Alright, spill it. What's been going on?"
Kai took the lead, recounting the details of the two recent cases they'd encountered. Cal chimed in, describing the eerie similarities in the wounds and the fact that both victims were vampires. Michelle's brows furrowed as she absorbed the information, her expression turning sombre.
"So, you're saying that it looks like the work of a ghoul," Michelle summarized, her voice tinged with concern.
Kai nodded, leaning forward. "Exactly, and not just any ghoul. There was a report sent by the headquarters of a pureblood birth. The vampire progenitor is dead which leaves us with the ghoul progenitor who might have gone against the treaty signed and created another pureblood ghoul. "
Cal added, "We've got footage of the suspects too. Three individuals who seem to be linked to the cases."
Michelle's eyes widened as she studied the images on the tablet Kai handed her. Her surprise was evident, but she kept her emotions in check. These two suspects, Alex and Kira, were her daughter's friends. She couldn't let that cloud her judgment. How could they be related to this? While they had provided information about Ken, Michelle hadn't thought that they were a part of the supernatural world too. She hadn't even taken the warnings given by them seriously thinking they were just kids who were trying to be a hero and the reason she had even agreed to the meeting was because of her daughter.
"Thanks for the update, guys," Michelle said, nodding. "I'll take it from here."
Kai and Cal exchanged a glance, sensing something was off, but they knew when to follow orders. They got up and headed to the door.
As they walked back to their car, Kai scratched his head. "Did you feel that too? Something's not right."
Cal nodded, his brow furrowing. "Yeah, she seemed kind of distant. But whatever it is, we need to focus on finding more leads until the police make a move."
Back inside the house, Michelle sat with a frown on her face. Did her daughter know that Alex and Kira were involved in the killing of vampires and were probably not humans? She wanted to talk to her but held herself back. Alex and Kira might be brewing some sinister plan by manipulating her and her daughter. She had to get to the bottom of this and only then would she talk to her daughter.
But first, she had to apprehend Alex and Kira and interrogate them.
