Elle's throat felt dry.
From what she could gather, it appeared that her mother was well aware of Arthur's deep obsession to the Saintess. Arthur had also become engaged with her mother because he could see the Saintess's image in her. She felt her blood curl at the disgusting idea of Arthur turning her mother as a replacement of the Saintess.
What else she could understand is the fact that Arthur already had another relationship with Lady Gladys and the child she had is possibly Caroline.
Her mother knowing this two things must have asked for the engagement to be annulled but Arthur wouldn't let that. To him, Solina is the perfect replacement of the Saintess. He couldn't simply have Solina to leave from his grasp and would do anything including locking her inside the mansion.
But what she couldn't understand is the "him" that they mentioned and how it appeared that her mother had also "betrayed" Arthur.
What kind of betrayal?
