Chapter 30 - "Still can't trust me, huh."

Under the bright and sunny sky, we found ourselves within the rose garden. I had nestled into a shaded corner, watching as Zemislav commanded those around him with an air of authority. He held a stack of papers, effortlessly engaging in conversation while emanating confidence and cheerfulness—practically radiating light.

Draftsmen and builders hung on Zemislav's every word as he passionately explained his idea, in which he came up with himself without my knowing. I, on the other hand, found myself to be the girl who just agrees with whatever the leader says in a group project.

I let out a sigh, resigning myself to letting Zemis take the lead. People often praised his capabilities in situations like these, and I believed this project would likely turn out well under his guidance.

Even in the original novel, Zemislav had garnered praise for his hardworking nature and proficiency in almost everything he undertook.

Three days had gone by since the King's announcement that Zemislav and I were to work together on his grand birthday banquet. Initially, I felt overjoyed by the recognition from both the King and Queen. However, knowing me and Zemis will have to work together kind of puts me off, knowing that the past Zinnia did something awful to him.

How could I possibly mend our relationship?

Lost in my thoughts, I failed to notice when Zemis had approached and stood before me. "Zinnia," he called out.

I looked up at him. "What is it?" I asked, arching an eyebrow.

"The King's directive was for both of us to work together, but it appears that I'm the only one who took his words seriously," he said with a glare.

Now he was speaking as if he were a frustrated team leader addressing an uncooperative member.

I rose from my seat, dusting off my clothes. "My apologies, Grand Duke. Had I known you were conducting a meeting, I would have gladly shared my ideas," I said with a hint of assertiveness.

"But, I did overhear your discussions with the draftsmen and builders. Your idea for an outdoor celebration is quite impressive, and I genuinely agree with your choice," I added, surprising him with an unexpected compliment.

"Thanks...?" Zemis responded, his confusion evident.

"But hey, Grand Duke Zemislav, I want to apologize once again for my previous behavior. I know I might not be the best person you've interacted with. I can't undo my actions, but I genuinely hope you'd consider giving me another chance to make amends," I said with genuine tone in my voice.

Zemis regarded me with a tilted head. "Is this some sort of trick, Zinnia?" he suddenly asked, a look of disgust crossing his face.

"What? No, this is truly how I feel, Grand Duke. If there's any way for me to earn your forgiveness, then—"

"Then tell the King that you don't want to host his birthday banquet! That would bring me satisfaction," Zemis interjected, his voice raised and interrupting my words. His outburst attracted the attention of others nearby. He stormed away, his glare piercing, and I felt the weight of the stares directed at me.

Stunned, I remained rooted in place.

Wow, being yelled at by the protagonist is more painful than I thought.

Gah! Getting into his good side is damn hard!

Frustrated by all the drama, all I genuinely desire is a peaceful life. Knowing I had read this damn book, but only gained a few knowledge regarding the MC's and the plot. I can't help but feel like a dumb-dumb.

It would be truly advantageous if Zemis were to develop a fondness for me, allowing me to stay in the capital rather than ending up in the secluded place that the original Zinnia faced.

I wish Adelaide were here to offer some comfort, but she's preoccupied with her spouse!

That's it! I'll pay a visit to Xyriel to boost my spirits!

I shall comeback here later on and see what I can do to make amends. I'll seek for Xyriel's advise if he has any!

"Maidsforu! Please bring me my robe! I'll be waiting for you at the stable," I exclaimed with enthusiasm, snapping my fingers to summon her.

Responding promptly, she appeared before me. "Certainly, Princess!" Maidsforu acknowledged, saluting before hurrying back toward the palace.

With a cheerful step, I made my way to the stable. As I approached, I spotted Saddie waving at me with a friendly smile, prompting me to wave in return.

"Good day, Saddie! Would it be alright for me to take Ellie for another run?" I asked him.

"Good afternoon, Princess! Absolutely, feel free to," he answered.

"Great! Thank you!" I replied, then proceeded to where Ellie stood, drinking water nearby.

I patted Ellie's back, and he turned to look at me, emitting a snort that seemed to say, 'Oh, it's you.'

"Come on, Ellie! It's been three days since we last saw each other, and you don't even miss me?" I pouted playfully.

Once again, he snorted, then proceeded to give me an unexpected lick across my face. It was a bit slimy, but it brought a smile to my face nonetheless.

"Princess!" Maidsforu's voice suddenly shouted from a distance. Turning my attention toward her, I noticed her running quickly, holding my robe and her own skirt in a skilled manner.

She's good, one could say she's skillful.

"Maidsforu! Y-you didn't need to run so fast!" I exclaimed, a bit concerned.

As I spoke, she had already reached me, coming to a halt as she tried to catch her breath. She was visibly sweating from the effort.

"Maidsforu, I appreciate your quick response, but you shouldn't have exerted yourself like that. You might get hurt if you keep pushing so hard," I said with genuine concern.

"I hurried because I thought you were in a rush," she explained between pants.

"Well, I'm not in a rush, but I truly thank you for getting the robe to me so promptly! Now, go take a short break, alright?" I advised, giving her shoulders a comforting pat.

"Of course, Princess!" She responded, giving another salute.

"Alright then, I'm off. I'll be back before dawn," I stated, mounting Ellie.

"Safe travels, Princess," Saddie wished.

"Take care, Princess!" Maidsforu added.

With their well-wishes, I set off, ready for my ride with Ellie.
