Chereads / Beast Driven System / Chapter 83 - No Where To Run

Chapter 83 - No Where To Run

Eventually, morning came. It was time for the children living in the city to head of to school. Waking up early, Stacy got up from bed and frrshed up before heading downstairs to enjoy breakfast with her dad. Looking down, he asked her what was wrong, and she began to lament on how much she wished for the previous day to last longer.

She was a good student at school, but whenever she gets the chance to spend her day at home, the urge to head of to school the next day completely leaves her body.

Jake had made breakfast for the both of them, and before she left for school, she asked about how the case regarding his car getting vandalised was coming along.

"I haven't heard from them yet. Maybe they're still busy with some things. I'll head over to the station later to ask how the investigation is coming along," Jake replied, almost finishing his breakfast.

Once she was done with her breakfast, she made her way to school before the first bell rang. Now, standing in the hallway, she was waiting for her best friend to meet up with her before they both walk towards the classroom.

"Stacy!" Maya yelled out, waving out to her as she entered the school building. "Wait up!"

As soon as the two met up, they began walking towards their first class while catching up on things. Stacy wanted to bring up their discussion from the other day, but thought it would be best to just focus on other things for now.

While chatting, Stacy had suddenly bumped into a student.

"Hey, watch it!" The student shouted, glaring at her with intent. "Are you blind? Watch where you're going, loser!"

Stacy had fallen to the floor as she and the other student had collided. Seeing this, Maya quickly bend down to help her friend.

"Stacy, are y-" she was unable to finish her sentence as a hand had grabbed her own. Something began to feel familiar, as thoughts from the previous day began to surround her mind.

"Maya, why are you trying to help her?" A voice said. Turning her head, she looked up, only to see that it was Kevin that had stopped her. "Don't you know that people like us shouldn't associate ourselves with the likes of them? What do you think the other students are saying about you?

"You need to stop associating yourself with weak people like her," he warned her, slowly tightening his grip around her wrist.

Shocked, that was how she felt after hearing what he had said. She could feel the pain around her wrist, and could also hear the whispers coming from the students in the hallway. They all stopped what they were doing and turned to face what was going on.

"Aahh! Is she really going to stand by her loser friend and go against Kevin?"

"I don't think so. They're in a relationship. She has to take his side."

"But remember what happened yesterday? She stood up for that week student and almost got dealt with by him."

"Man, I wished he just beat her up back then. Well, I guess there's no time like the present. What he didn't do yesterday, he can just do it today."

Everyone was saying all sorts of things, but Maya, all she was focused on was the words that came out of Kevin's mouth.

Her eyes began to twitch while her hand began to shake.

"What did you say?" She asked, her voice low and coming out somewhat broken, but being close to her, Kevin could hear every word she had said. "I should not help a weakling like her? Is that what you said?"

At that point, the pain around her wrist had intensified, but not even a Yelp had come out of her lips. In fact, there wasn't even a hint of pain showing on her face.

Everyone present was more than interested in what was going to happen next as it seemed like Maya wasn't going to back down from Kevin's scare tactics this time around.

Her eyes began to glow with power, and she activated her ability. Her ice powers coarsed through his hand, freezing it instantly, but with his fire ability, he was able to melt it just as fast.

She quickly stood up straight, abd so did Kevin. Still holding onto her wrist, he began to apply more pressure to it, but that didn't stop her from using her powers. Using all the strength she could muster, she somehow managed to break free from his grasp, and was now able to use her powers with less restriction.

Waving her hands out, a cold breeze blew, and from the front end of that breeze, came a large mass of ice that surrounded Kevin completely. If it wasn't for his flames surrounding his fists, he wouldn't have been able to keep the ice from freezing his body once again.

From his face, it was clear that he was loosing his patience with her. He dashed forward and threw a fist aiming for her gut. Seeing this, she raised her leg aiming to strike him on his head. There was a clear winner as his head swinging to the side, saliva spewing from his mouth from the force delivered.

"You'll pay for that," he said, wiping the spit from the side of his mouth.

Meanwhile, Stacy had gotten off the floor, and was ready to scurry off to the side, when someone held onto her wrist, stopping her from moving away. As she looked at who it was that was stopping her, her heart began to thump louder than it already was, and the words from her father the other day rang in her head.

Do not get involved with the other students. That was what her father had warned her about. But now, what was she meant to do when one if those students had gone out of her way to look for her trouble? Was she to just stand back and let this student deal with her however way she wished?

"Sorry, dad," she said, delivering a punch with her other hand across the student's face, and in that brief moment when her head swung back and her grip loosened, she kicked against the student's stomach, pushing her to the ground as she made a run for it towards the nearest classroom.

It looked like today, Maya and Kevin would settle this matter once and for all as neither one of them looked like they were ready to back down and call it quits. Maya had determination showing in her eyes as she glared at the boy standing before her.

'I love you, Kevin. But that doesn't mean I'm just gonna stay by and watch you treat me and my best friend like shit!' she declared in her mind, tightening her fists. 'If I want things to change, then I'll just have to do something about it!'

Using her ability, she was able to surround both her fists in a blue icy mist that would continue to swirl around both fists. Whatever comes in contact with her ice fists, would end up freezing instantly. And depending on how hard she punched, the freezing could either be faster or slower.

Kevin had done the same thing, only that he had done so with his fire ability.

As the two charged towards one another, Kevin swung his fists, while Maya would do the best she can to dodge and launch strikes of her own. The two seemed to be evenly matched in terms of combat prowess, but it was clear that Kevin's ability was stronger, as there were times when she would get burnt by the heat of his flames whenever their bodies made contact, or even when his fists were just slightly away from her face.

Still, such wounds would heal using her Mana, and her ice powers were able to soothe the pain, as well.

Although Stacy was able to launch a surprise attack and managed to get away, the student wasn't just going to let what happened slide. Getting off the floor, she wiped off whatever first stained her uniform before turning her gaze towards the students standing around.

She then walked up to one of them, a weak student, and grabbed hold of him by the scruff of his shirt.

"Where did she run to?" She asked, staring up at him as her hands lifted his body above the ground. The student shivered in fear as his legs moved frantically, desperately trying to reach the ground. His eyes couldn't even meet gets as she shook his body non-stop, and by the look of things, he was on his own, no one willing to stand up for him against a student like her.

This was just the way things were. Both in the military academy and in normal school, the strong were able to do as they wished, while the weak had to live in fear and just hope that they were never targeted by the strong.

"She ran over there!" The student said, desperately pointing in the direction Stacy had fled to.
