Beth feels better by the time she leaves the room. The talk that she had with Sadie she knew that Sadie might not believe everything she told her, but at least she would be looking out for herself more.
As Beth walked, she started to wonder how much more she should be telling the other kids about what was going on with their dad. Knowing that she would never tell them what Rodger was trying to do to her. She was thinking that the only one that was in real danger was Sadie.
Beth is glad when she sees that Jim is not there on his stool as she walks into the room. She was just so tired of him sitting there staring at her. She could tell that he usually undressed her with his eyes. She almost bumps into him as he seems to come from nowhere and suddenly stops in her path.
Jim asks, "Going out?"
Beth feels linked backing away from him. She has never felt all that comfortable talking to anyone when they are only 4 inches from her. Especially when their eyes are clearly focused on the part of the dress that is covering her nipple. Beth felt like saying can I help you with something but didn't even want to go down that road. So, she knew that at least for now she needed to keep him a little happy.
Beth said, "Yes I need to go out and get some food for the children." She was hoping that mentioning the children would make him relax and calm down a little.
Jim said, "Just let me know if you need any more cookware. I have a lot to give you in my room. I mean I still have a lot of cookware you could borrow. I do not mind lending them out to special guests." He was thinking especially when they look like you.
Beth thought and I am sure that is not all you want to give me in your room. Beth gave him a smile and said, "Thank you are just the sweetest. Just like a big brother so nice to me." She hoped that by saying that she was thinking of him as a big brother he would take the hint and back off.
Jim just stood there not really thinking, blocking her and almost drooling over her chest until Beth said, "Well, I do really need to get going and pick up the food. So, if you don't mind."
Jim realized at that point that he was standing in her path and mumbled a sorry. As he took a sidestep out of her path, his eyes never left the nipple that was pressing hard in the dress showing its exact size, and shape.
Beth wanted to cover her chest just to make him stop looking so intently at her. When he took another step and tips over a table making him look away. She easily slips around him as he is distracted.
Beth thinks that she is going to have to find a dress that is not as tight as this one is. This has to be the last time that she goes out without a bra, and panties on. She was just feeling too exposed.
It was not long after she hit the street that she saw that they were looking at her again. Before she could ever get to the butchers, she saw that there were at least 2 guys that were following her.
Beth thought for a moment but never stopped moving. She did not want them to catch up or wander off. She asked herself if just two would be enough to bring in the money that she wanted. She knows that Stan said that he would be paying her, and making sure that she had enough to get by. But she was not sure what else he might start demanding. She knew that he was using her to get at Rodger, but there was nothing saying at what point he was going to stop paying her. Or if he was going to ask more of her than just not to sleep with the guards.
Beth knew that Rodger was not innocent by any means. The fact that he made the deals with the guards was proof. But she knew that Stan was just as bad as Rodger was if not worse, but at least he was not trying to sell her to the guards.
Beth knew that it was going to be a lot better to make as much money as she could while she was here. Knowing that the income would stop completely once they leave.
Beth saw the butcher looking out the window with a huge smile when he saw her and then his expression changed a little once he got a good look at her. Beth thought that she must have overdone it, and the dress was too revealing. He looked just as attracted to her as the ones who were mindlessly following her.
Beth walked down a few streets making sure to stay on the main streets. She did not want to get trapped in some kind of alley that she couldn't get herself out of.
Beth circles around and before she knows it, she sees at least four guys following her making sure to keep their distance unsure of how to approach her. As Beth reaches the butcher's the door is suddenly opened for her from the inside. Beth is expecting it to be Joe the butcher, but her smile starts to fade seeing it's not. It was the guy who tried to buy her food the last time she had seen him.
As Beth enters, she puts her best smile back on and tries to figure out what he wants. Steve said, "I was hoping to see you here again."
Beth moves out of the doorway allowing the men to filter in. Beth looks at him curiously thinking just what do you want. Beth shoots him a coy smile and says, "Really, have you?
Steve gives her a wink and replies, "Indeed I have."
Beth gives him a special smile as she flicks her hair and makes a special effort to sway her hips as she walks over to the butcher's counter. With a huge smile, Joe gives Beth a wink and asks her what she will be wanting. He already knows that she is not going to order yet.
Beth sees the wink and nods saying, "Oh I am just not sure what I am hungry for." As she glances around the room making sure to get good eye contact with every guy that is standing there. Each man in turn puffs out their chest trying to show just what a catch that would be.
Joe said, "Well since you are trying to decide what you like. I will wait on the others, and maybe that will help you decide what whets your appetite. Next, please. What would you like sir?"
Steve moves out of the way not even interested in being called until last. He is after something that the butcher is not offering for sale.
One by one it was just as Joe had planned, each one placing their order making sure that it was bigger than the last and with more expensive meats. Beth made sure to watch them as they ordered. Like she was considering them as the one that would be taking her home. Then smiling at them once they had ordered more than the last one.
Joe couldn't believe just how well this was working. He realized if this keeps up he is going to have to butcher another cow, and pig to get ready for tomorrow night. If he didn't want to run out of meat. He had never sold so much meat in his life, and if they just kept ordering like this, he wouldn't be able to keep up.
Joe is actually relieved when Steve places a small order that is basically just enough for the two of them to eat one meal and says, "Well I have the food. Why don't you join me for that meal that I offered you yesterday."
Beth gives him a coy smile and says, "I am not ready for such a meal. Just look at how shabbily I am dressed. Good sir, after all, we have not even been formally introduced yet."
Steve nods knowing that she knows how to play the game. She is not going to be one that he is going to simply give them a meal, and then have them wind up in his bed.
Steve nods to Joe to have him introduce them to each other. Beth this is Governor Steve Sanborn he has the mansion on the hill. Steve stepped forward and offered her his hand as a proper greeting. But as Beth gave him her hand, he didn't just shake it. He bent and lifted her hand gently kissing the top of it.
Beth gasped at first, not being prepared for someone to do that. Especially when they look like they are so rich, and powerful, and the governor as well. Beth thought that this was just a prison island, one that had almost nothing. Then she thought if you had that much money and power you could get whatever you wanted whenever you wanted it so it didn't matter where you lived.
Beth smiles and says, "It's nice to meet you, Governor Steve Sandborn"
Steve says, "No need for such formalities just call me Steve." With a huge smile on his face, he saw that she was as impressed as he had been hoping for her to be.
Beth said, "Well, you see this old thing is just not suitable for such a grand meal, and since there are no places to buy dresses. I will just have to pass on your generous offer."
Steve, still holding onto her hand a little too long but not wanting to let it go says, "Well if that is your problem then I will just have to have my personal tailor pay you a visit. He will make you something that is more fitting for the occasion. You are lucky his shop is just down the street. I will let him know that you are coming in and to make you whatever you want. I will expect you tomorrow night for dinner. Say at 7 O'Clock." He hands Beth a cards with the tailor's name and address on it. He turns and leaves without waiting to hear her response.
Beth is just stunned as she takes the cards, one to the tailors, and the other has his information on it and which he had already written the time on it. Before she had come into the butcher's. Beth turned to Joe and asked, "Is this for real?"
Joe said, "Yes, and if I were you, I would make sure that you go to it. The governor has a way of getting what he wants. As long as you keep him happy then everyone is happy then..." Joe took a hard swallow and said, "Well I don't know from my own experience, but there have been some that have come up missing, or that have wound up in prison from mysterious charges."
Beth looked at him and thought that she was beginning to see why some women prefer other women. Every guy that seems to be in power seems to be corrupt in some way.
Joe saw her starting to panic and said, "Don't worry. I have seen this before. It isn't like he is going to try anything or try and force you to do anything. He just likes the company of beautiful women, especially for dinner."
Beth thought well it looks like I will be having a good meal in a new dress. That actually doesn't sound all that bad and he was the most proper gentleman that she has ever run across.
Joe asked, "Well have you decided what you want for tonight then?"
Beth listed off all the things for a full day knowing that tomorrow she will be busy and unable to shop. Now that they are in 3 rooms there is going to be enough room in the refrigerators for the food and won't go to waste.
Beth looks up at the time and knows that she is going to have to hurry and get the food back in order to prepare it before Deen brings the other guards.
Beth's mind was not only on the thoughts of the governor, and the meal that she was going to be getting. But was thinking just what was she going to tell her kids, or even if she should tell them. After all, she had broken up with Rodger, but she had not even told him yet. Let alone told him that she was going to be getting a divorce.
Beth was so deep in thought that she never even noticed the three men who were approaching her from behind.
