Beth was feeling better in so many ways. It was like her life had suddenly changed for the better ever since she had come to this island. She knew that if she had not brought her children here, they would be slowly starving. Soon they would have been homeless and cast out on the street. As she thought about it, she knew that even if she had gotten Rodger out that they would have been going back to no money, because the job that he had for Stan was now gone.
Beth had mostly gone to get Rodger because she thought that she loved him and he loved her, but after what happened in the prison. With Rodger offering her to everyone and the way that Deen had made her feel. She knew that neither of them loved each other now. The love that she had for Rodger had been completely shattered, and she never wanted to see him again. Even if he could come up with the money to support her and the kids. It would never be enough to wipe away the pain he made her feel.
As Deen walked her out of the prison Beth could not help but feel the loss, and the anger of all the wasted years that she had spent with Rodger. One time of fucking someone else that she knew didn't love her. She had felt more love, compassion, and caring than she had felt in her lifetime with Rodger. At first, she had felt regret, and ashamed of what she had done with Deen. Even now she couldn't say that she was exactly proud that she slept with someone who didn't love her, but she knew that it was something that she would never regret doing. She knew that if she got the chance she would do it again. Just to see if it felt the same way, or even better knowing what he would do, and how he would do it. As she thought not that he ever would want to do it again, but as long as he was a guard for her at least he would be around enough that there would be a chance.
Beth remembered the last time when they reached this point, he just sent her on ahead. Saying that another guard would take her the rest of the way out. Beth started to panic as Deen slowed down and turned to her. She thought he was going to just send her on again.
Deen said, "Hold on. You stay right there. I will be right back. Don't go off with anyone. I need to go into the guard's room before I take you the rest of the way out."
With a smile, Beth thought I would wait for him as long as he wanted me to. Then said, "Okay." She then thought she shouldn't be thinking this way. He doesn't love me, I am too old, and I have kids to take care of. She couldn't help herself but stare at his ass as he walked away.
Deen had been away for over 5 minutes when a guard stepped up to Beth and said, "If you just follow me, I will see you out."
Beth popped out of the daze that she was in. She was confused, she had no idea what was going on. The guard had been told that Deen was taking her out. So he said, "Deen sent me to you. To bring you into the guard's room. So, that you can meet up with him. He mentioned that you would be meeting up with some of the other guards that were supposed to be guarding you or something."
Beth looked at him shocked shaking her head and said, "Deen told me to stay here and that he would be back to get me."
The guard just shook his head and said, "He is not going to be happy when he had me come out here to get you, and you refused. But whatever it's your neck, not mine. I'll just tell him that you are not interested."
He turns back and Beth watches as he heads off in the direction that Deen went in. He pauses as he holds the door open and asks, "Are you sure that you don't want to go to him?"
Beth shakes her head and says that she is going to wait for his return as she was told.
The guard says, "Well that is a shame." As he nods to the two guards that had made their way up behind her. At first, Beth didn't see the ones behind her until the gate closed with a rattle. As the gate closed clicking to lock in place it made her turn to look. Beth was instantly nervous she knew that there was nothing that she could do if they tried to just drag her off. As they drew close Beth started to tremble a little.
Beth saw that they were undressing her with their eyes. Just as they got ready to say something Deen emerged from the other side. The two guards saw him and just walked past Beth without saying a word.
Deen shot them a look like what do you think you are doing as they passed, and they knew that they just needed to ignore it and keep going.
Deen said, "We are all set the guards are all lined up. The guards that we need to keep you all safe are lined up for later. I will escort you home then let the others know where to go for their shift. Don't worry, you and your children will be safe I promise."
Beth nodded but then she started thinking about the room that they were in. There was just no way anyone else would fit in that tight spot that she had. Now that Stan had given her the hundred, and the money that she should be getting from him to help her. As well as what the butcher was going to be paying her. There was no reason that she couldn't trade rooms and at least get something a little bigger. She knew that she was still not going to be able to get everyone their own room, but there was no reason that she couldn't get a two or three-bedroom place. Especially if there was one at the place that they were already living in.
Beth was leaning toward a three-bedroom one if there was such a thing it would be good to give the girls and the boys a place of their own. Leaving her to have one of her own. Just in case she might need it. Thinking of Deen spending the night there. That was something that she was not going to want to explain to the kids, especially until things had been worked out with their dad.
Beth blushed at thinking of Deen spending the night. Deen saw her blushing but had no idea of what was going on with her. Deen said, "When I drop you off, I will have to just leave you there, and head back to work. At least no one knows where you live."
Beth told him how the guard had come to visit her and brought the note from Rodger.
Deen said, "You will have to change rooms or places that you are staying. We can't have them already knowing where you are, and what room you are in."
Beth was happy that he wanted her to change rooms. Deep down in her heart, she was hoping that he was going to offer that they could stay with him. But she knew that there was no way that would happen. She couldn't help that part of her was still dreaming that it would.
Beth said, "I was already thinking that we were going to need a bigger place anyway, but we are not planning on staying here all that long. Once the trial is over we have to go back home. Especially now since Stan is providing the money that we will need to survive."
The thought hit Beth as the words slipped out of her mouth. She was going to be leaving never to see him again in just a few days. She thought to herself that she was going to have to take advantage of the time that she had with him. Beth had thought that there was no reason that she couldn't come back here. After all, this was where Rodger was being held, and she could tell her kids that she was going back to see him. Then she thought what if they move him to a different place or what if one of them wants to come visit him?
Beth's mind was racing trying to figure this all out. Then she got a grip on herself. She thought that at first it had been more or less a one-night stand with Deen. There was nothing saying that he would ever have anything to do with her again. She knew that he had only been feeling sorry for her and was there when she needed him. It was not like he had developed feelings for her and even if she could get him to sleep with her again it didn't mean that he would want anything more than that from her.
Beth thought about the way that the guys were on this island, and it was really silly, and they were acting this way just because of the shortage of women.
As they left the prison Beth could not help herself but walk close to Deen it had been such a long time since she had someone to walk with. Beth started wondering since they were no longer in the prison if he would get upset if she took his hand as they walked. Then she thought what was the worst thing that he would do now he had already agreed to guard her, and her kids and since they were going to the same place. So, she stepped closer and took his hand.
Deen had half expected her to do this since she had almost done it in prison. Deen just shook his head but held onto her hand after all it was making her happy and didn't matter to him at all.
Deen looked at Beth and hoped that she wasn't getting too attached. If she was, he would just push the guard duty that he had with her to the other guys. He was not looking for a wife or a girlfriend. Especially one that had a bunch of kids already.
Beth could tell what he was thinking based on the look on his face and said, "Don't worry we are only going to be here till the trial is over. You won't have to worry about me being around after that. Whether Rodger is convicted or not. It is over between the two of us." Beth wondered if the thought of her not being with Rodger was more appealing to Deen or not.
Deen had no idea of what to say, but he was relieved that she was not going to lose herself and start chasing after him. Deen nodded and they walked quietly through the town. Once they reached the market Beth dropped his hand. She didn't think that she wanted everyone to see her holding onto this huge guy's hand. If she was going to be expected to lure guys into the butchers. She didn't want them thinking they were going to have to compete with Deen to try and get her.
Beth remembered that she was going to try and lure guys into the butchers after she had come back from the prison, but she knew being with Deen would probably throw things off. She saw the guys were looking at her now, but none of them were following her. As Beth thought about it and understood why. If she was one of the guys she wouldn't have wanted to piss off a big guy like this either.
Beth knew that she was going to have to adjust where she was living before she went out to get stuff for supper anyway. The biggest question that she had was whether there was a big enough place where she was staying now. She knew that she had gone there because they had told her that it was the cheapest place when she asked around. Now she needed something bigger. She was not sure just what she was going to be needing to have room enough for the guards, but there was not even room on the floor there to have them be able to lay down. Beth knew that if it was Deen that was taking the night shift and she managed to get a three-bedroom one she would be glad to invite him into her bed. Or if it was only a two-bedroom one she could see herself snuggling up with him on the sofa letting her kids take the beds.
Beth didn't know why her mind kept drifting there she knew that he was not into her, but she couldn't help where her mind kept taking her. She knew that it had to be the fact that he was making her feel things that she had not felt in such a long time. She knew that she had been love-starved and now with just the little attention that she was getting it was like a drug to her. She wanted more, and having him make her feel more than she ever felt before was making her just want him all more.
By the time they made it back to her place, she was feeling like she wanted to tell the kids to go out and play so that she could have the room and the bed alone with him. She was relieved when he just dropped her at the door of the place and didn't try and go in saying that he needed to get back to the prison.
Beth told him to meet her at the butcher's that they passed at 5 o'clock so that they could get the food that they would need and then she would make supper for them. Deen told her that he would bring the other guards then so she could meet them.
Beth could not help but smile as she looked up at him. She knew that she shouldn't fall for him because he was not interested in her, but she couldn't help that she wanted him. He was just so big, strong, and handsome.
Deen saw the look in her eyes and knew that she was becoming attached, but there was nothing he could do about it. The only saving grace was the fact that she was going away in just a few days. As long as he made sure that they had little to no alone time he figured that she wouldn't get too attached.
Deen was about to leave then realized that he couldn't go until he actually saw where she was going to be staying. He knew he needed to size the place over, so he just let her go ahead and stood in the background trying not to be noticed. Not to mention that he had to let the others know where to go and what room she would be in.
Beth saw the innkeeper in his normal spot sitting on the stool just staring at her as soon as she entered the inn. He was creeping her out more than normal, it was just that he was staring so intently that she covered herself. She felt like she was standing there nude in front of him. She would have done anything not to have to talk to him, but her only choice would have been to move out and go somewhere else. She really didn't want to do that unless he didn't have a room that would work for her.
Beth casually walked up to him and said, "The room that I have is just too small. Do you have any two or three-bedroom rooms here?"
The innkeeper was distressed that the room was too small. It was not like he wanted her going anywhere. He knew that it was not like she had any interest in him, but at least he could see this sexy lady go in and out. On top of that, he liked the fact that she was borrowing some of his things. It was making her go into his room and that was forcing her to talk to him whether she wanted to or not.
The innkeeper came up with an idea to try and keep her. The rooms across the hall were empty, and they had connecting doors. They were basically the same as the one that she was in, but with the connecting doors open it made it like a large 3-bedroom place. He offered them to her so that she would stay there, and it would only cost her a little bit more.
Beth thought about it and thought that if the rooms were connected it would work and if they wanted privacy, they could just close the doors. Without locking them unless she was really needing the privacy. That way they could leave the doors to the hall locked. Beth thought if the bed was just bigger, she would only need two rooms, but it was just too hard to sleep 4 in a bed. Besides who knows she had hope that she might be able to get some use out of the bed. She knew deep down it wouldn't happen, but for now she wanted to keep that hope alive.
Beth knew that the only way that she was going to get a three-bedroom place was to rent a house. That is if there was one to rent. So, the connecting rooms were just going to have to work. Beth thought that since she was just moving across the hall if anyone was watching her, they would still see her here and think that she was still in the same room.
Beth was glad that this was going to be a short-term time thing and with all this extra stuff that she was going through it was starting to stress her out.
The innkeeper gave her the keys to all three rooms and said, "Just bring down the keys to that one once you are out of it."
Beth said, "Thanks I will bring them down as soon as we move."
Beth got a cold chill as she walked away knowing that he was watching her so closely. But it seemed that everything was still working out for her.
Beth was relieved when she opened the door to the room, she just wanted to tell the kids that they would be going across the hall so that they had more room and that things would be better once they went home.
As soon as she stepped into the room Beth heard Sadie say, "MOM! How could you?"
