NATASHA'S POV
Joey kept asking me why my family kept asking him those kinds of questions. I snapped it out trying to make him understand I had to concentrate on where we were going. It was the day of presentation and as expected Joey was getting on my nerves. We got to the printing center, and I handed over the papers for printing. Few minutes later, our papers were ready, so we went back home.
"It's your turn Joey and Natasha, please do the work with full cooperation or else you will definitely lose marks." Miss Harriet said, looking at us as we stood in front of the class.
I knew my life depended on that project, so I shook off all the hatred I had for Joey and presented our work together. We did the work really well and Miss Harriet was happy and asked the class to give us a round of applause. The class went on well and each pair did their presentation very well. After the class, Miss Harriet called us to meet her in her office.
"Can you both just tell me why you argue a lot, because today when I saw your cooperation in the presentation of the work, your work was exceedingly good as you did it together so, please can you give me the reason why." she asked while looking straight into our eyes.
I thought we wouldn't reply to her because we had no tangible reason but…
"The fact is that Tasha always feels as though she owns this world, always trying to make me feel as though she knows everything in this world, and I don't like that." Joey ranted.
"Is that true Natasha?" Miss Harriet demanded.
I could see myself feeling some kind of hotness running down my spine and I could see myself saying anything to Miss Harriet. I just snubbed the question and thankfully, my mom called, reminding me of my neighbour's birthday though I never wanted to go, I had to because that was the only way to escape the question thrown at me. I told Miss Harriet that my mom wanted us to go to a birthday party and I was late because we were the ones doing most of the decorations.
"How dare you escape that question, Tasha? Why didn't you tell Miss Harriet how you make me feel like I'm just a piece of garbage?" Joey complained but I decided not to respond to any of his questions.
I removed my headset from my bag and placed it on my ears but when I tried to walk away, he held me, removed the headset from my ears and…
"Answer me, Tasha! What have I ever done to you Tasha? Why do you want to make me feel as useless, worthless as a broken person as I already am?" He scolded.
"You wanna know why I didn't answer that question. It is because I see no sense in what you said at all. I don't know why you don't want to understand that I wanna be alone, I wanna do everything by myself, I hate mistakes because that's what I am. I am a big mistake to my family!! I think I'm talking too much, I gotta go, you can keep my headset if you want to because it is another mistake." I walked away after ranting.
I never liked it when someone made me talk about myself because I wanted to forget about me and whatever pleases my family. Everyone tries to point out my mistakes rather than what I did better. Every time I do something wrong, they send me to live with my dad's mom, thus, my grandma and nobody knows how miserable life is with my grandma, they all think it's discipline not knowing…
"Welcome back sissy, we've been waiting for you to come make the cupcakes and cookies for Maxwell's birthday. You know he's counting on you to make your delicious cookies and cupcakes for his birthday party." Lilly reminded me while putting the ingredients on the kitchen cabinet.
Quickly, I threw my bag onto the sofa in the living room and dashed into the kitchen to start baking. Everyone knows how good I was at baking, but a mistake could…hmm…
"Pass me the milk in the fridge Lilly. Maxwell always likes it when there is a lot of milk in his cookies." I said confidently.
"I know you know Maxwell very well Nat, just hurry up with this. I'll dress up and leave you but when you're done you can call me so that I'll help with the carrying of the pastries." Lilly said and attempted to leave her room.
"So sweet of you Lilly, you love me, I know." I boasted and she rolled her eyes.
Everything was going on well and I was happy as Max was delighted with the pastries. I wasn't really happy because of how Joey made me talk about what I never wanted to. I went to sit at the balcony while I was thinking about a girl who walked in with her family, and they looked very nice as if they were a perfect family. Nobody cares about anybody's mistake as long as it can be corrected.
My imagination was interrupted when I heard a slight noise from beside the house. I went to see what was happening there, and what I saw frightened me to my bones. There was a gang of bullies who surrounded a young girl who was on the floor. I knew very well that I was strong enough to fight them, so I went and…
"Leave the girl alone you sons of bitches!!" I roared with big sticks in my both hands.
They turned to me and before they could even try to hit me or do something to me, I used the stick to hit their leader, I fought them so much that they were all on the floor, the place was a bit dark so I helped the girl up and took her to where I was sitting, since I knew Max's house very well, I went to get a clean towel, water and a minty ointment so that I could dress her wounds and I recognized the girl as the girl I was daydreaming about.
After everything, I introduced myself to her, we had a long conversation together and actually, that was the first time I poured out my heart to someone and laughed out loud like that.
"I really had a good time with you Natasha. I've not been able to talk with someone and laugh as hard as today." Natalie confirmed.
"Me neither Natalie. I really had a great time with you." I replied.
"Thank you very much Natasha for helping me, I don't know how I would have escaped those miscreants without you." she said with a smile which I returned.
We both went inside the house as Lilly came to tell us that it was time for taking pictures.
