Mia stepped toward Britany, her hands trembling as she placed them on her shoulders. Fear was written all over her face, and she shook her head in denial.
"That can't be possible," she muttered, almost to herself. "If they found out Jordan was working for me, everything is going to fall apart. I'm sure of it. There's no way he would have turned me in. No way."
"Well, you have to believe it," Britany said, her tone casual but firm. "This is the reality, Mia. Why don't you believe that your precious Jordan could turn on you?"
"No, no, no... that's impossible. I know him. He wouldn't do that."
"Well, you didn't know him well enough," Britany replied, her eyes narrowing. "If you had, you'd know he's an alcoholic, a smoker. If he wanted his cigarettes, he'd do anything to get them. Anything, Mia."
Mia's face paled, her hand moving to her mouth in shock. "Oh my God," she whispered, unable to hold back her disbelief. "No, that can't be possible."
