Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

She knew Dean lived in the Palm Villa district developed by Reed Corporation. With her current funds, buying a mansion was out of the question, but she could afford a townhouse in the same area, albeit smaller and not a single house.

Joy was decisive. She took a taxi to the sales office and purchased a small three-bedroom, two-bathroom townhouse. Although the house wasn't large, it had a small front garden, excellent greenery, and outstanding natural light. There were only a few neighbors in the same building.

Joy chose the ground floor with a small garden. After signing the contract and making the payment, she called Christopher: "Chris, come to River Rd, I have a surprise for you."

Christopher, fearing she had given up on going to the police, hurried over.

Joy took him into their new home, exclaiming, "Chris, are you surprised? This is going to be our home from now on!"

Christopher looked at her incredulously, "Joy, what are you talking about? Our home?"

"Yes, this is the house I bought for the two of us. All the paperwork is done, and I have the keys. We can move in tomorrow, Chris, aren't you excited?"

Joy sat happily on the beautifully furnished leather couch, patting the cushions, her smile pure and innocent.

Christopher became anxious, "Where did you get the money to buy a house?"

"Didn't I still have five million left? This house cost exactly five million, not a cent less. I paid in full. Thankfully, I had enough, otherwise, Chris, you would have had to pay," Joy joked.

She wasn't foolish enough to spend all her money on a house; she had only made the down payment.

Christopher moved closer to her, gripping her hand, "If you've spent all the money on the house, how are we going to afford our wedding? Where will we get the money for the wedding ceremony and honeymoon?"

Joy looked at him, her delicate eyebrows furrowing in confusion, "Chris, isn't it your responsibility to pay for our wedding and honeymoon? You said you would give me the best wedding and take me on a honeymoon."

Christopher looked uncomfortable, "But my salary is too small. I'm afraid I won't be able to afford the grandest wedding or the most romantic honeymoon for you. Moreover, my mother will be furious when she finds out about your extravagant spending. Before she finds out, we should sell the house. Otherwise, she might force me to break off the engagement."

"Why would Aunt be angry about me buying a house?" Joy inquired, puzzled.

"My mother had already budgeted that money for our wedding. She had planned where every penny would go. Now that you've spent it all, how can she not be angry? Besides, my family already owns a house. Why did you need to buy another one?"

Joy scoffed inwardly, 'I need to consider your mother's feelings when spending my own money? Who gave you such audacity?'

Ah, it must have been the original Joy. The Joy from the book felt guilt and inferiority, and was extremely kind to his family, putting up with Lucy's whims.

Upon hearing Christopher's words, the original Joy would not have been angry, but rather pleased. If Lucy still considered how to spend her money on their wedding, she would surely forgive her.

She would even deliver the money on her bended knees!
