I franticly scrambled out of my bed as I grabbed my day outfit.
"Go get a sword and armour from the armoury, a bit of cloth will not be enough to protect you." Ferdinand said, his voice quick with anxiety.
In a worried frenzy I rushed through the halls to the armoury, which up until now I had never seen. The room was full of armour and weapons neatly ordered in a tidy fashion. I grabbed a suit of armour that looked les bulky then the others. As I was franticly putting the armour on I studied the various different kinds of swords that were displayed on the wall. After a while of looking I piked a relatively alright sized sword with a firm leather grip.
I rushed out into the court yard with my shiny silver armour glistening from the sun rays.
"Ah you're finally here Sammy, common lets get into the carriage before we miss any of the fun," Damien stood next to a large horse pulled carriage. His armour was much sharper and lighter than mine was, with less plates. The carriage he stood next to was huge and decorated with gold and silver patterns. The horse pulling the carriage was an elegant animal with a long silky white man.
We hopped into the carriage to be greeted by Ferdinand and Gabriel who were already seated inside.
"How long will it take of us to get to the village?" Gabriel asked Ferdinand
"We will arrive in approximately half an hour," Ferdinand replied.
A few minutes of awkward silence passed as we drove through forests, fields and meadows. The silence was finally broken when I asked a question that has been on my mind a lot recently.
"Why are we doing the trials that we are prepping for"
Everyone gave me a confused and shocked expression.
"How come you don't know, our fathers dead and one of us will have to eventually fill in as the new king" Gabriel told me with a slightly angry look on his face.
" I must of forgotten when I hit my head, sorry. How did he die anyways?" I told him
"He sacrificed his life to seal the lord of shadow, Sam this is common knowledge" He told me with a stern and agitated voice.
"Who is the lord of shadow?"
"Gabriel looked even more annoyed and bewildered as he told me.
"The lord of shadow was a man who appeared in our land 100 years ago. As years passed he slowly grew in power and eventually cast a permanent shadow over the world for 80 years. During this time half of the worlds population had been killed by dark creatures such as Nergles. The king , our father, Could not stand by and watch his people die so he gathers 1,000 soldiers 300 masters in the magical arts and waged war on the lord of shadow and his creatures of darkness. Each and every single one of the men the me the king had brought with him died within hours of entering the lord of shadows domain. The rest of the story is unclear but all that is know is that the king managed to seal away the lord of shadow at the expense of his own life."
"if the Nergles are soldiers of the lord of shadow shouldn't they have disappeared?" I asked him
"If I'm going to be honest, I have no idea what's going on and why the Nergles are back but I know its nothing good," Gabriel replied
I nodded in agreement as I stared out of the carriage window.
Before long we had arrived to the village with was reduced to rubble. In the canter stood two beasts that were as tall as trees. They wore thick clumpy armour that hid their thick dirty black fur. Their faces were a pale white with thin skin. Their features were beastly and skeletal. Their long snouts protruded out of their face with rows of sharp jagged teeth inside. They brandished rusty and thick swords that were the size of an average adult male.
They turned their heads with irrie cracking noises. They sneered at us exposing their jagged yellow teeth.
They both charged at us but luckily Ferdinand shielded us by blasting the Nergles with at thick gust of air. We ran away as fast as we could while they were dazed, hiding in a row of bushes.
I peeked through the thicket of the bushes only to see the gargantuan beast stalking through the woods looking for us.
"This could be our chance to save some of the village folk," Gabriel said while peeking over the bush.
"we could seek past the Nergles," I told him as I pointed to a pushy forest area that lead directly back to the village.
"That could work," Gabriel said before promptly leading us through the bushes and plant life.
I felt like every step I made made a loud and audible noise but thankfully none of the nettles noticed us.
When we returned to the village we grabbed anyone with a pulse and quietly put them in the carriage. Suddenly we heard branches snapping. we hid in one of the less destroyed houses in the village.
"Ferdinand you're good with your sword and magic why can't you kill these things?" I asked Ferdinand in a whisper.
"If it was only one I might have the chance to kill it, but two is too much even for someone like me" Ferdinand said with fear in his eyes.
Suddenly the ceiling above us was torn open. The two beasts stared at us with a disgusting and insatiable hunger. Ferdinand tried to blow them away with a powerful whirlwind but they were unfazed. One of the beasts reached for Damien, He tried to cut its hand of with his spear but it broke it in two. The beast grabbed him with its large hand. Gabriel tried to drown it with his water magic but it was useless.
Suddenly I felt a violent and fiery rage, this was someone who did nothing but taunt me since the day I woke up. but he was still my brother, The rage boiled up inside me and crashed like fierce waves on the shore inside of me. Thick black smoke emanated from my hands and sword growing stronger like a tar-black fire, engulfing entire my body. I swung my sword at it, Slashing it into two pieces. The monster turned to dust as I swung at the next one. It raised its sword in defence. Slowly its weapon began to break under the pressure of my hatred, venom and rage. It too disintegrated as I finally calmed down and came to my senses.
Behind me, Ferdinand and my brothers glared at me with fear, disgust and confusion.
"Looks like he is a fit candidate after all," A dark figure engulfed in shadow approached us. It's voice was deep with a repulsive rough texture to it.
"our master will be very pleased when he sees you Sam" The monster cackled menially.
The closer it got to me the more rage and hatred I felt. Its mere presence elicited all of the deepest, darkest and most sickening emotions hidden deep within me.
"You remind me so much of him" It said as it fizzled out of existence.
The second it left all my hatred subsided. I looked behind me to see Ferdinand, Damien and Gabriel celebrating our victory.
"They had lost their memory of your little performance," The deep and gravely voice invaded my thought.
The shadow creature was all I could think of on our way back to the carriage.
