Chapter 31 - The Second Trial

Kenji eventually released him from his death hold as he was eventually calmed down. Lucian made some quick lie about how he eventually escaped from the werewolf as the thoughts of an early Star rank stage defeating a late Star rank was just unbelievable.

"Don't worry Lucian, once I grow strong enough, I'll immediately go and slaughter that thing." Kenji said as he slammed his huge palms on Lucian's shoulder which elicited a small smile from him.

"So what's the deal with this place." Lucian asked as he stared at the other youths around, the place death silent.

"I've only met a few about 30 when I arrived here. But their numbers has only been doubling since then. They are others who also managed to pass the forest and trying to join the Divine Battle sect." Kenji replied as he slowly sat down.

Lucian gaze narrowed as the number of students soon reached above 150. The Divine Battle sect was a brutal sect which not many would want to join but he was a little surprised seeing there was already so much and the number was still increasing.

But that wasn't what surprised him, but the power of the participants. The weakest had a cultivation base of the Early Star rank stage while there were even some who radiated power greater than that but he wasn't worried as there was none with the Late Star rank cultivation.

The number of the students soon reached a staggering 200 when the gate of the dojo suddenly snapped close.

Lucian's eyes widened as he snapped his neck forward when three figures suddenly appeared in the dojo.

They radiated absolutely no aura at all while dressed in a golden red robe. All were old men as they stood in front of the students with no smile on their face. Something Lucian was begining to notice is pretty prevalent among the Divine Battle sect.

One of the men suddenly stepped out as he began.

"Congratulations to you all for passing the first stage of the trial of joining the Divine Battle sect which is being able to survive the forest and enter into the Divine Battle sect." the old man said with a smile causing weird expression to appear on their face as they didn't know that was even a part of the trial.

"Most were able to pass this trial with just 30% dead of the 100% so it's really a good score." The man said not a bit bothered about the casualties as if it was but an ordinary thing.

"The first trial already came to an end so the 2nd Trial would be starting soon." the man said causing all the participants to raise up their head as they all eagerly listened, not wanting to fail at this point due to misinterpretation.

The man suddenly pointed his hands forward as he dream a symbol into the plain air.

The symbol appeared in the air as it coalesced together forming a metallic badge which soon turned to 200 before moving towards the students.

Lucian watched as the badge closed in on him and appeared on the pocket of his robe.

"This years entrance exam will take place in the mountain ranges just behind the sect. The test will last a week and there are only two goals you ought to achieve in this test.

The first is to make sure you never lose your badge as that will count as an automatic disqualification." the elder said staring at them all as some unconsciously held the badge to themselves closely.

"The second test is to make sure you acquire as many badges as possible which will lead to a greater status in the sect. As most might already know of the sect's disciple hierarchy which is the outer, inner and core disciple. What disciple you will become and hence, resources to be obtained is dependent on the number of badges you could collect." the elder said making sure his word sank in before continuing on.

The rules are simple. One: You must not kill or cripple another participant but you can use any other method of obtaining the badges." the elder explained causing Lucian's eyes to narrow as he scoffed a little.

It seems the sect didn't even care a bit about the safety of the participants and actually accepted the obtaining of badges so far one isn't killed or crippled. There are far countless ways to obtain something without killing or crippling like torturing to the point of death.

Not that he particularly cared one way or the other. He already witnessed how cruel it is to grow stronger in this cruel world so he wasn't particularly shocked of the Divine Battle sect methods.

"Lastly, the badges cannot be stored in your spatial rings as that would lead to an automatic disqualification." the man said causing some participant's face to scruch up in disappointment.

But Lucian face only relaxed as that saved him some trouble of looking into spatial rings. He could just out right yank it away from their pockets.

"Are there any questions." the man asked but the entire place was deathly quiet.

"Good, then I think we're ready to go." He said with a smile as their badge suddenly lit up before they all immediately disappeared from where they were standing.

The tree elders stared at the place where the students were a second ago as a smile appeared on each of their face. The first elder with a large bead around his neck suddenly said

"I wonder how many of them will be able to even get into the Inner sect and if there's one who will reach the mark of a core disciple."

"Besides, I heard the Demon king is interested in one of them and will choose one as his disciple." a bald headed elder said beside him as he repeatedly scrubed his beard.

"The demon king had never accepted a disciple before due to his pride as he also looked down on even sixth grade talents. I wonder who caught his eyes amongst them." The third elder said as they suddenly disappeared away from the hall just as they came in.
