Ren's fist blasted a small section of the forest away, leaves and splinters danced in the air. However, Ren didn't see the cannibal anywhere, he didn't even feel the punch connect. Ren raised his defences once more, feeling around for the cannibal.
'Behind you Ren, he's hiding near a bush.'
Ren quickly turned around, raising his arms in a defensive position once more. Staring down the hiding cannibal, Ren's mind was working over time. Questions after questions flashed through his mind, but no clear answer came. How did that giant get away so fast? It seemed like he just disappeared moments before his fist connected.
'King, do you think teleportation exists?'
This was the only answer, this was how the cannibal escaped his attacks. The ambush was negated by teleporting away, and the same goes for his punch earlier. King's silence seemed to mean agreement, solidifying Ren's theory. However, his correct analysis only discouraged Ren, making him less confident in his chances.
'This is tough one, is there no weakness to his teleportation? A cooldown? A Recoil?'
Ren continued to stare down the cannibal, his eyes fixated onto his exact location within the bush. As the cannibal felt the unblinking stare, he knew that he was busted. *Rustle* The cannibal got up, his giant figure towered over the bush he was hiding in.
"How did you know? I'm sure I left no traces."
The cannibal smiled at Ren, or he tried to, contorting his face to form what seemed to be a smile. Ren took one look at his face, felt sick to his stomach, then dashing forward to attack. *WOOSH* Ren punched out, his fist whistled through the air, rapidly approaching the cannibal's face. *Fwip* The cannibal disappeared once more, causing Ren's fist to strike air.
"Let's talk this out shall we? You can't hit me, I can't hurt you."
As the cannibal spoke in a confident tone, Ren turned around to face him. Once again, the cannibal disappeared and appeared elsewhere. This time, he was leaning on a tree, his figure hidden by the shadows. Ren stared straight at the cannibal, before growling out his answer.
"Well, let's just say I'm not interested in talking to psychos."
Ren blasted off the ground, flying towards the cannibal at blistering speed. In a split second, Ren appeared to be a blur, barreling towards the cannibal. Just before Ren made contact with the cannibal, He disappeared once more. *BOOM* *Crack* Ren crashed through a tree, landing on the other side unscathed.
'Is there no limit? That was barely 20 seconds before he teleported again.'
Ren felt helpless, the opponents ability seemed invincible. If he could teleport around with no visible consequences, who could defeat him? As Ren listened to the mocking laugh coming from behind him, he turned to face the cannibal once more. Standing there with a twisted smile, the cannibal yawned and leaned on a tree.
"Is that it?"
Ren gritted his teeth in anger, but he couldn't come up with a response. As Ren stood there, the cannibal took this chance to attack. *Fwip* Suddenly, the cannibal disappeared before Ren's eyes, causing him to activate the reversal technique. As a thin layer of golden aura covered Ren, the cannibal dashed out from behind him.
*CLANG* The cannibal struck out with a bloody machete, putting all of his strength behind that swing. As the silver blade made contact with Ren's golden aura, the blade snapped in half.
"Hah, I knew it wouldn't work. Never hurt to try I guess."
*Fwip* Just as Ren turned around to face the cannibal, he disappeared once more. Staring at the empty space behind him, frustration welled up, this stalemate infuriated him. Just before Ren tried to find the cannibal once more, King finally spoke up.
'I noticed something Ren, I was watching him on your back. His teleportation isn't instant, he seemed to slip into the ground.'
Ren's mood lightened a little at this piece of information, it seems like the ability had an imperfection. As Ren replayed the teleportations in his mind, he figured out a connection between all of them.
Ren turned his back to the cannibal, running back towards the campsite. As the cannibal watched Ren from behind a tree, he readied himself for another attack. *Fwip* The cannibal slipped into the ground, disappearing from his spot.
'I figured out his ability, and what a pain in the ass it is.'
Ren reached the camp site, the campfire still going strong amidst the darkness of night. Grabbing a stick off the ground, Ren plunged it into the fire.
'The trick behind his ability is shadows, he's only teleported to dark places so far.'
As the stick caught on fire, a knife flew from the darkness. Dodging it with ease, Ren took out his flaming stick.
'Since he's cocky, he only dodges at the last second. I can trap him because of that.'
Ren pulled out a small flash light, hiding it in his hands. Taking a deep breath, he readied himself. Ren turned towards the cannibal, the flaming torch in hand. As the cannibal watched with interest, he payed special attention onto the the flaming stick.
"What's that supposed to do? Scare me?"
Ren ignored the taunting, silently walking towards the cannibal. As the cannibal watched Ren approach slowly, he felt confused. Does he think my teleportation works slower if he's slower? What a dumbass.
As the cannibal prepared to slip away, Ren suddenly lifted his arm, turning the flashlight on. *click* Light cut through the shadows beneath the cannibal, stopping his teleportation.
"Wha-"
As the cannibal registered what was happening, Ren threw the torch on him, lighting him on fire.
