Since the beginning of the Dark Cataclysmic Era, Humanity has lost its throne as the world's overlord. Reduced to dregs and remnants of their former glory, barely surviving from whatever was left, the fate of humans continued to be shrouded in despair.
But all of it was about to change.
It was time for the Liberation War.
In the surroundings of the warehouse considered the County's Bastion was the shrouding darkness of the pitch-black. And amongst it were the streaks of light emitted into the dark, piercing the air like lustrous beams.
The former bastion had become a battlefield between the abominations and the humans.
*Bang!* *Bang!* *Bang!* *Bang!*
*BRRrrrrrttt!!!* *BRRrrrrrttt!!!* *BOOM!!!* *BRRrrrrrttt!!!*
*Bang!* *Bang!* *BOOM!!!*
*BAM!* *BAM!* *BAM!*
Gunfires and explosions resounded throughout the battlefield like thunderous roars of monsters and calamities. It was a vicious battle that shook the earth and burned the land. The clash between humanity and the abominations of the night has started once again.
"Fire!"
"Don't leave any of the bastards awake!"
"Give them the eternal slumber they deserve!"
The comrade Officer of the Seventh Platoon shouted towards his soldiers while pointing his handgun toward the charging horde of aberrants. It was the officer version of the Dobermann, the Greyhound. Without hesitation and delay, he pulled the trigger and began firing at the abominations.
*Bang!* *Bang!* *Bang!* *Bang!*
"The abominations of this land must be eliminated. For the Cerberus and the Director, we will not let anything be stained of their filth." The comrade Officer continued giving his speech while a Hammer IFV went a bit forward and started firing its turret, where a 40mm EM cannon and EM 50. Caliber turret resided.
*BAM!* *BAM!* *BAM!* *BAM!*
Bullet and ordinance casings fell to the ground one after another. The great warriors of Cerberus kept fighting against the abomination like they were angels sent by the heavens to give punishments to the roaming devils of hell.
*BOOM!!!* *BOOM!!!* *BOOM!!!*
The Grenadiers kept throwing grenades and firing their grenade launchers, causing unprecedented damage to the aberrant flood. Crimson flames burned through the mutated bodies of the bastards as flammable smoke kept encapsulating the battlefield.
*BRRrrrrrttt!!!* *BRRrrrrrttt!!!* *BRRrrrrrttt!!!*
The soldiers mounting the armored rotary heavy EM 50. caliber machine gun was firing at the horde of monsters with precision and destruction. The rain of leads decimated the aberrant flood, making it seem like a wall of death was stopping them from their wild charge.
Every squad within the two platoons was fighting against monstrous abominations of the night. Each of them had armaments, and they pointed them at the aberrants as if they were hated enemies with thousands of years of history and conflict. It was quite a sight to behold.
"Sir, the remaining Targets have begun their conflicts. It seems that others have also encountered variables in their respective targets." A Communication Operator reported to an Officer dwelling inside the H10 Armored Truck.
"Understood. Await for any news from the FOB." The Officer nodded in understanding and uttered towards the Communication Operator. The Operator nodded and left the Officer alone. Afterward, the Officer gazes at the battle outside and remarks.
"We are handling our Target well. A little bit too well."
"There's no way a variable would be simple. Besides, it has been confirmed that an aberrant flood will always have a special-grade aberrant. The first partisans of the Director fought against one of them."
"The First-Ordinance Sentinels contacted and slaughtered the variable. Its remains dwelled in the containers of the FOB. Their existence has been discussed during the meeting, and they are dangerous. If not for the Director's immense wisdom, the first partisans would have lost that battle."
Obviously, the variable has been scrutinized during the meeting of Officers and First-Ordinance Sentinels. The intelligence and capabilities of the variable weren't to be underestimated. Even the Cerberus has to make a category for them to belong, commonly known as the special-grade aberrants.
*BOOM!!!*
An explosion reverberated into the H10 Armored Truck, making the Officer inside it furrow his eyebrows. He stepped out from the armored truck and saw a giant rock beside it. His eyebrows were furrowed even further as he remarked.
"What the hell!"
A Communication Operator ran towards him and reported with haste.
"A special-grade aberrant has appeared on the battlefield, Sir. It looks different from the ones portrayed by the first partisans. Perhaps another type of special-grade aberrant. It's more wild and untamed than the first one. But it has a lot of strength!"
"A special-grade aberrant?" The Officer raised an eyebrow and immediately walked towards the battlefield. Numerous soldiers were using the vehicles and terrains as cover while firing toward the general direction of the aberrant flood.
Fortunately, none appeared to be injured from the special-grade's attack.
He then noticed his comrade Officer fighting with the soldiers. The comrade Officer kept pulling the trigger of his Greyhound and gave weird speeches to the soldiers beside him. The Officer didn't waste any time and headed towards the comrade Officer.
"I heard about the special-grade aberrant. Where is it?"
Even though the Cerberus had excellent night visions, the darkness of the wasteland still impeded some of their perceptions. The comrade Officer glances at the Officer and stops firing his Greyhound. He put it back in his holster and responded.
"We only caught a glimpse of the bastard. It threw a giant rock that almost hit the armored trucks. Luckily, the idiot has bad aim." The comrade Officer grinned. On the other hand, the Officer looked at the comrade Officer strangely. He never thought one's personality would change so extensively during battle.
"It's good that the special-grade aberrant has a worse aim. But we need to find it before it can cause trouble to us." The Officer expressed, which the comrade Officer calmly understood. The comrade Officer waved his hand as a Communication Operator emerged beside him.
"Have the Drone Specialists search the surroundings for the special-grade aberrant. It will be a priority." The comrade Officer ordered while the Communication Operator bowed and sent the message to other Operators and soldiers on the battlefield.
Mere seconds later, several drones flew to the skies and observed the battlefield from the heavens. The Drone Specialists of the Cerberus examined the dangerous battle as a hail of leads pierced through the air, blazing in the darkness.
The Officers continued observing the battle, which continued to rage without any intentions of de-escalating. After quite a while, the Communication Operator reported to them about a discovery.
"The special-grade aberrant has been discovered. It seems to be hiding behind the warehouse, waiting for an opportunity. All the Drone Specialists are hovering above it and are observing its movements."
A nearby Drone Specialist walked towards the two Officers with a tablet in his hands. Despite the reverberating and thunderous gunfires, he didn't seem bothered by it. As he arrived before the two Officers, he gave them his tablet that was observing the bastard.
The Officer and the comrade Officer gaze at it with their furrowed eyebrows. Even though the special-grade aberrant wasn't as intellectual as the one that the first partisans fought, it was still more intelligent than a normal aberrant.
The moment it understood that the hail of bullets could injure it. The bastard decided to hide and wait for the opportunity. Unfortunately for the special-grade aberrant, it was still dumb for revealing itself early in the battle. Though, there was no need to complain about its intellect.
The dumber they were, the better.
"So this is the special-grade aberrant. It looks a dozen times more buffer than an aberrant, perhaps a giant abomination compared to the ordinary ones. No wonder it could throw that large of a chunk of rock." The Officer remarked with interest.
"The filth must be cleansed, so our victory will be guaranteed." The comrade Officer was displeased with the existence of the special-grade aberrant. He wanted it to be destroyed and delete its existence from this world.
"What do you suggest?" The Officer glances at the comrade Officer, wanting to hear his suggestion.
"Pretend to stop firing the IFVs' turrets for several seconds and let it misunderstand that our guns had failed us. Which is impossible, of course. Though, the giant abomination doesn't know that." The comrade Officer suggested with a smirk on his face.
"That works." The Officer's eyes squinted before agreeing with the comrade Officer's plan. It wasn't a worse plan, and it was simple.
If the special-grade aberrant wanted to find an opportunity to attack the two platoons, it must be watching somewhere. To bring it out from its hiding, they must present a chance that the bastard would take. Making it appear their IFVs' turrets jammed was the best way to do it.
So, the plans were sent to every Communication Operator on the battlefield. The order was five words. "Stop the IFVs from firing!" The soldiers operating the IFVs didn't hesitate to follow the orders and stopped shooting at the incoming horde of aberrants.
*BANG!* *BANG!* *BANG!*
*BRRRrrrttt!!!* *BRRRrrrttt!!!* *BRRRrrrttt!!!* *BANG!*
But even without the support of the IFVs, the aberrant flood didn't stand a chance against the army. The rain of fiery lead kept hitting them at sonic speed. Holes in their heads emerged as they soon fell to the ground after.
The Grenadiers loaded their grenade launchers with flares and pointed them at the skies. They didn't wait for orders and pulled the trigger.
*Bang!* *Bang!* *Bang!* *Bang!*
The flares flew to the heavens and glowed radiantly like lustrous stars. They soon descended, revealing the endless sea of aberrants charging out from the deep hole like a torrent of black and muddy water. One would consider it a horrifying sight, but the soldiers of Cerberus intensified their gunfire.
The whistles of the flares echoed as a dark and massive figure emerged from the warehouse. It carried a rock on its shoulders with an unnatural grin plastered on its buff and pale face. The bastard didn't have any eyes, and spikes could be seen protruding from its spine.
It stood 8 meters tall like a giant amongst abominations.
The Officer gazed at it with a confident smile. The comrade Officer glared at it without any of his former crazed state left on his face. One wouldn't expect the comrade Officer to be grinning in battle moments ago..
"The smile of the bastard is annoying. As if thinking that it got us on a checkmate." The comrade Officer exclaimed with annoyance while holding off the orders to fire at the abomination. The Communication Operator had already sent a word about the sign for the fire signal.
So, the IFVs were merely awaiting the signal.
"Let the fools think they won. We only need to be cautious and deal with the problem efficiently." The Officer remarked while raising his arms to the dark skies. The special-grade aberrant was about to throw the rock at them, but before it could do so. The Officer clenches his fist.
*BAM!* *BAM!* *BAM!* *BAM!* *BAM!*
The IFVs began firing everything they had residing on their turrets toward the special-grade aberrant. Before it could even react, large holes were all over its body as it fell forward into the ground with a thud. Quite anti-climatic. But the strength of the Level-0 Aberrant Tyrants were never a threat.
Only their unexpected intelligence.
Though, it does make one wonder what threw humanity off entirely from its throne.
"No more special-grade aberrant has been detected. We have seen through the end of the aberrant flood. Variables couldn't be perceived." A Drone Specialist reported, to which the comrade Officer responded with a beaming smile. He walked forward while taking the Greyhound from his holster.
Holding the Greyhound in his right arm while taking a whistle with his left. He gazed forward into the darkness and shouted with determination in his eyes.
"Warriors of Cerberus!"
The crazed comrade Officer returned with greater madness. He charged towards the aberrant horde while pulling his trigger. He fired his Greyhound with accuracy and ease.
*Bang!* *Bang!* *Bang!* *Bang!*
The comrade Officer then whistled with all his might while he roared a single word to the surrounding soldiers. It echoed like divine words from a seraphim.
*Fweeeeeettt!*
"ADVANCE!!!"
"""URAAAAHHH!!!"""
