Flashback… Do Hyun Soo and Cha Ji Won pose for wedding photos. The photographer complements Hyun Soo's smiles and asks Ji Won to be as natural as her husband. Hyun Soo request a break for his tired wife. He tells her stamina is the key. She asks if his parents will boycott the wedding. Hyun Soo confirms. He tells her not to be burdened because she's the only one he needs to be there. She smiles in pleasure.
Ji Won visits her husband. She says it's been 4 months since the shooting.
Flashback…Hee Sung aims the gun. Hyun Soo turns and sees the gun. He throws himself on Ji Won. The gun goes off. Officer Im shoots Hee Sung. He falls to the ground. Team Lead Lee sees that Officer Im is freaked out and gently loosens his grip on the gun. Ji Won sees Hyun Soo has been shot. She touches the blood on his face. Detective Choi Jae Sub declares he's alive. Ji Won hears husband's breathing. Detective Choi calls an ambulance.
Ji Won learns that Hee Sung was shot dead. She tells Detective Choi that the bullet skimmed Hyun Soo's head. Detective Choi tells her to hang in there. Officer Im grapples with killing a man. Team Lead Lee leads him away with understanding.
At the hospital, the tests reveal Hyun Soo's head was fractured. He'll live. The doctor believes he'll wake in a day or so.
Ji Won puts Hyun Soo's ring on his finger. Detective Choi arrives. Ji Won asks after Officer Im. Detective Choi says Team Lead Lee is taking care of the young officer.
Ji Won's voiceover "At that moment I didn't know I'd never see him again".
Ji Won asks her husband to say something. Hyun Soo clasps his hands and says nothing. He stares at her with a vacant stare. She tells they'll they can get to know each other slowly. Hyun Soo corrects her. He's not Hee Sung, he's Hyun Soo.
Flashback…In the hospital he dreams of their life, but when he wakes, he believes it is 2005 and he's just been in a car accident. He staggers out of the room. In the hallway, Ji Won is on the phone with her mother sharing her frustration at his unconscious status. She sees him stagger to the windows. They look at each other. Hyun Soo turns to her. He walks towards her. Then he passes her without acknowledgement. Ji Won calls him sweetheart. He turns and sees her badge. He backs up and tries to get away. He runs. She chases. The reporters swarm him. Hyun Soo doesn't remember the last 15 years of his life. Hee Sung doesn't understand why he's famous.
Captain Yoon Sang Pil explains to the reporters that Hee Sung's parents swapped Hyun Soo in for their comatose son. He declares Ji Won had no idea and when she learned the truth, she convinced her husband to help the police investigate. This led to finding victims Hee Sung murdered.
Do Hae Sue (Do Hyun Soo's sister) smiles when Reporter Kim Moo Jin visits her in prison. Recall she killed the village foreman, not Hyun Soo as everyone thought and Hyun Soo led them to believe.
Hyun Soo says the story is amazing. He doesn't understand why she doesn't blame him. He's sorry that he can't be her husband. Having heard this before, Ji Won almost asks why he's still wearing his wedding ring, but decides against it. She wishes she could make him feel better. She leaves her husband fingering his wedding ring.
Courtroom, Hae Sue's murder trial begins. Hyun Soo arrives to testify. He swears to tell the truth.
The defense questions Hyun Soo. He tells the court that he found his sister next to the dead man.
Flashback…Hae Sue holds the scissors. Hyun Soo asks why she killed the foreman. Hae Sue explains she wanted him to stop the cruel exorcisms. But then he attacked her. Hyun Soo takes the scissors and smears the blood on his face. He eliminates his sister's fingerprints.
Hyun Soo confirms he hid the truth because their father's serial killer crimes would make a fair trial impossible. Hyun Soo testifies that that Hae Sue was afraid of the village foreman who drug him away for exorcisms.
Ji Won hopes Hyun Soo's questioning by the prosecution goes as well as the defense.
At the police station, Detective Choi asks how the trial will end up. Team Lead Lee believes that self-defense will be difficult to prove since Hae Sue stabbed him. Detective Choi notes the villagers are protecting the foreman.
The prosecutor questions Hyun Soo. She asks if he knowingly hid the truth about who he was to everyone. Hyun Soo confirms it. She asks why he's a good liar. She asks if not feeling emotions means he can't feel guilt. Hyun Soo locks eyes with Ji Won. Hyun Soo remembers telling Ji Won that he loves her. He remembers telling his sister he didn't love Ji Won. In the end, Hyun Soo doesn't answer. Moo Jin tells Ji Won that now Hyun Soo looks like someone that is lying about everything.
Outside the courthouse, Moo Jin chides Hyun Soo for freezing on questions they expected and practiced for. Hyun Soo sees Ji Won stride out of the courthouse, He tells Moo Jin that when he looked into Ji Won's eyes, his mind went blank. Ji Won and Hyun Soo nod to each other. He gets into Moo Jin's car. She takes a call from Detective Choi and tells him the trial isn't going well. Moo Jin chides Hyun Soo for being stiff with Ji Won. Hyun Soo counters he doesn't want her to believe that he'll remember her. He says it is best for all if he stays away after deceiving her for their entire marriage. Moo Jin points out that Hyun Soo loved Ji Won. Hyun Soo says that was a lie. He doesn't believe he'd marry for love but live a lie. Moo Jin points out that Hyun Soo can't get Ji Won out of her mind. Hyun Soo admits it is hard to think about her. Ji Won knocks on the window and asks Hyun Soo to come with her.
As they drive, Ji Won explains that they may have located a witness to help his sister.
Flashback…Detective Choi tells Ji Won that the village foreman's nephew reported that the amount paid to the shaman doesn't match the amount of money the foreman withdrew from Do Min Seok (Do Hyun Soo's Father) inheritance.
Ji Won tells Hyun Soo that the foreman was stealing money from Do Min Seok's inheritance so he did everything he could to make the spotlight fall on Hyun Soo in unfavorable ways. Ji Won asks Hyun Soo if he knows the foreman's' nephew Yang Jin Tae. She apologizes for the endearment.
Moo Jin tells Hae Sue about Yang Jin Tae and that Ji Won and Hyun Soo trying to persuade the man to testify. Hae Sue asks if Hyun Soo is drawn to Ji Won. Moo Jin notes Hyun Soo is a different person. Hae Sue wonders if the coma entrenched Hyun Soo so he didn't evolve as he did in real life. She wonders if this is the new normal for Hyun Soo. Moo Jin complains that Hyun Soo is annoying to live with. Hae Sue says he doesn't have to visit as often. She admits she's ugly in the prison uniform. Moo Jin declares she's pretty in anything and he likes talking to her. Hae Sue hopes she can go to dinner at Hyun Soo's house with everyone gathered around one day.
Hyun Soo and Ji Won arrive at the nephew's apartment. He's not there. His phone is off. Hyun Soo believes the nephew decided not to testify. The nephew texts Ji Won that he's changed his mind and won't testify. Ji Won urges Hyun Soo to wait until the nephew returns to convince him to testify. It begins to rain. Ji Won smiles. Hyun Soo watches the rain with her. She admits she likes the rain. She puts her hand in the rain. Hyun Soo watches her take pleasure in the simple act. He smiles. He remembers says that Ji Won only believes what she wants to believe and is easy to manipulate. That wipes the smile from Hyun Soo's face.
Baek Eun Ha tells her Grandmother drawing her father in her pictures makes her mom sad. She tells her Grandmother her father's long trip makes her mad. Why doesn't call? Why didn't he take them?
Hyun Soo tells Ji Won to leave without him. She is distracted by his wedding ring. She asks why he wears the ring. He claims it bring balance to his hands in the shop. He takes it off and returns it to her. The nephew arrives. He sees Hyun Soo. He runs. Hyun Soo and Ji Won pursue. Hyun Soo asks why he's running away. He asks the nephew to testify.
At the coffee shop, the nephew states his uncle stole money from Do Min Seok's inheritance. Hyun Soo asks why he refused to testify to this. The nephew says that his uncle paid him to spread false rumors about Hyun Soo's cruel ways. Ji Won snaps he created a false image of Hyun Soo make other afraid on him. The nephew confirms this. He refuses to testify in court because his current life will be destroyed by his past actions. Hyun Soo tells the nephew to testify if he wants to. He advises the man to consider if he can live with the choice to let his sister suffer. Hyun Soo tells the nephew no matter what he'll forgive him. Ji Won can't believe it.
Driving back to the city, Hyun Soo admits he lied to the nephew about forgiving him. He really wanted to kill him. The nephew calls and agrees to testify. Hyun Soo thanks him. He smiles at Ji Won and says he can read her. He knows she can't reconcile who he is with what she thought he was. She pulls over and demands to know why he's banging the drum that he's a terrible person. Hyun Soo points out he is a liar and she doesn't want to admit it. Hyun Soo admits his body remembered the past 15 years, that he had the ability to read other's emotions and manipulate them. Hyun Soo says he knows what she wants from him. Ji Won claims she doesn't know that. Hyun Soo says she wants to hear that he remembers and loves her but he doesn't and won't lie to her. Tears stream down Ji Won's face. She can't believe he forgot her. She says they loved each other, went through hell, and now she's snipped out of his life. Hyun Soo admits he can't trust his own emotions. He can't believe he ever cared. He can't believe any feelings he has now will last. Hyun Soo knows she looks at him and hopes the man she loved is still in him. Hyun Soo declares he hates that man and wants to know nothing about him. Hyun Soo believes they can't see each other for who they really are in the present and this locks them in the pain of the past. They both sob at the truth of his words.
Good scene.
When Hyun Soo returns to Moo Jin's apartment, he's chastised for stocking the fridge with food he won't eat. Moo Jin notices the remnants of tears. Hyun Soo says he wasn't crying. Hyun Soo shares the nephew will testify. Moo Jin guesses Hyun Soo is bothered by Ji Won. Hyun Soo admits he doesn't plan to see his daughter. He doesn't want to confuse Eun Ha by not remembering her. Hyun Soo says he wants his inheritance to his daughter.
At home, Ji Won looks at shirt that Hyun Soo wore. She smells it and cries. She sits alone and listens to the interview with the nephew. Eun Ha asks her mother if she's divorced. Eun Ha cries the kids at school told her that. Ji Won says she's not divorced. She can't answer why he won't come home. She finally tells her daughter that daddy needs to live as himself right now.
Nice moment.
Hae Sue thanks Ji Won for her efforts. Ji Won thanks Hae Sue for protecting her and Eun Ha from Hee Sung. Hae Sue admits that act felt like redemption. Ji Won tells Hae Sue she's decided to let Hyun Soo go. She didn't want to let go, but it is the right thing to do. Hae Sue tells her pain can lead a person to a better life. She hopes the pain in Ji Won's life lessons.
The court renders the jury's verdict. They find Hae Sue's action were due to self-defense. The court doesn't unanimously agree but because Hae Sue was a minor and it was late at night, they decide it wasn't a punishable action. Team Lead Lee, Detective Choi, and Officer Im are thrilled.
Hyun Soo visits Gong Mi Ja (Hee Sung's Mother) in prison. She asks why he came. Hyun Soo believes she knew the real him. She asks if he's visited her husband.
Flashback…Hyun Soo visits Baek Man Woo (Hee Sung's Father) in the hospital. He calls Hyun Soo Hee Sung. He sees his son. They tell each other they've missed each other. He gives Hyun Soo treats he's saved for his son.
Hyun Soo tells Mi Ja that her husband continues to retreat into the past. He asks what he felt about his wife. She says he didn't want to bring Ji Won to their home because he cared for her and didn't want to lie to her. She tells the guard she's done and leaves a shaken Hyun Soo.
Moo Jin goes to Hae Sue's empty apartment.
Flashback…Hae Sue says she's going to study abroad. Moo Jin is dismayed and says she can get away and stay in Korea. Hae Sue explains she wants to start over. Hyun Soo is happy she's decided a path forward. Moo Jin claims she has his support. He warns that he won't wait for her. He claims he has a work commitment. He leaves the brother and sister alone. Hae Sue asks her brother to go after Moo Jin. He finds him staring in the window at his sister and crying. He almost touches Moo Jin. The crying man sinks to the ground. He asks if he should wait for Hae Sue. Hyun Soo tells him to do what he wants. Moo Jin claims he'll erase her from his memory. He asks Hyun Soo how to do that. Hyun Soo advises him to fracture his skull.
Hae Sue calls Moo Jin and they talk about her life. They miss each other.
Hyun Soo walks down the street.
Flashback…Hae Sue tells her brother their lives got lost in the mess of the past. She tells him to find a starting point and begin again. He asks who can help him find that point. She tells him he's the only one that can determine his starting point.
Hyun Soo finds himself at the point where he and Ji Won had their first date. He remembers the rain on their first date. He remembers her teasing him about not realizing he liked her. Tears fill his eyes.
His phone rings. It's the real estate office telling him they've found him a place to live and work. Hyun Soo arrives at his old house. The real estate agent shows him the workshop and says it is exactly what he wants. She says she'll call the owner. He asks to walk around by himself. He finds a business card with the shop name and notebooks where he kept records of his wife's likes and dislikes as he tried to understand her. Ji Won enters the room and tells him not to read those notebooks. Hyun Soo turns. Ji Won is taken aback. She explains she was cleaning up. She says he can have everything in the workshop. He looks at the business card. He asks if he named the workshop "Place Where the Morning Star Rests". She admits he never told her why he named it. Hyun Soo explains in mythology a hated metal working god spent time in his workshop but had a wife he loved dearly, Venus, the morning star planet. Hyun Soo turns to his wife. He says he always thought about her. Ji Won says she's getting transferred to a new city. Hyun Soo asks if she's leaving Seoul. Ji Won says she needs a fresh start and can't risk running into him. Hyun Soo can't believe he's ready to make a move to her and she's leaving. Ji Won says she can't take being disappointed anymore. Hyun Soo asks if she'll stay. He steps closer. He promises to be good to her. He'll like her real.
Flashback…Ji Won promises Hyun Soo she'll like her for real.
Hyun Soo says he wants to know about the husband he once was. She sees the cuts on his hand. He admits not wearing the ring put him out of balance. Ji Won takes his ring from the necklace she wears. She puts it on his hand. He admits she makes him nervous. He doesn't want to blow this. Ji Won feels the same. Hyun Soo approaches her, leans in and they kiss. They stare into each other's eyes. They kiss again with more passion.
Hyun Soo goes with Ji Won to get their daughter. He's nervous. Eun Ha calls to him. She rushes to him. She hugs him. Hyun Soo remembers hugging her as a baby. She asks if he brought her a gift. Hyun Soo apologizes. Eun Ha says he's the gift. Hyun Soo is touched. He says she's his gift. They hug. Hyun Soo looks at his wife. She joins in the hug.
