The curtain had quickly been drawn shut so that Carlton would not be witness to something unpleasant. But he could no longer see out the window since he was hiding in the storage compartment under the seat.
Lilianna drew the curtains open. It was dangerous by exposing them this way, but she needed to see how the battle was progressing.
There were ten or so men dressed up as bandits that were visible through the window. From the way Lilianna's personal guards were acting, there were probably more enemies hidden from view.
"Bandits?"
Lilianna shook her head. "They seem too uniform to be bandits."
Annmarie stayed quiet as she glanced at their movements from out of the corner of her eye.
One of the bandits who had been able to get closer to the carriage turned the weapon in his hand. Light caught on the surface, casting a bluish-white glow.
